QSW – Childrens – Best Interest Assessor
Perform statutory Best Interest Assessments under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. By demonstrating expertise and adhering to high professional standards, you’ll assist the council in applying the principles of the Mental Capacity Act to protect Surrey’s vulnerable citizens.
Key Responsibilities
Caseload Management:Handle a complex caseload, including individuals, children, carers, and families.Provide support and guidance to those in need.Risk Assessment and Decision-Making:Demonstrate confident judgement regarding risk and accountability.Engage effectively with fluctuating circumstances and capacities, even in challenging situations.Assessment and Review:Conduct assessments discerningly to address presenting needs.Ensure a proportionate assessment process that encourages maximum participation.Safeguarding:Lead positive interventions to prevent health and well-being deterioration.Manage safeguarding efforts for individuals at risk of abuse or neglect.Staff Development:Foster a learning culture by mentoring less experienced staff.Deliver formal reflective supervision and provide guidance to less experienced staff.Practice Educator and ASYE Assessor:When needed, take on the role of practice educator for students or train as one.Also serve as an ASYE (Assessed and Supported Year in Employment) assessor and supervisor for newly qualified social workers in the team.Support and Knowledge Sharing:Provide support during supervision and appraisal processes, assisting with personal and professional development.Share your professional expertise and knowledge with colleagues within the team and other partners.Data Quality and Protection:Maintain clear records of analysis and judgements, ensuring up-to-date case work records in the database as required by Surrey County Council.Adhere to the Directorate’s data protection policies.General Duties:Uphold the organization’s values and behaviours.Work inclusively with diverse stakeholders and promote equality of opportunity.Ensure health and safety policies, procedures, and legislation are fully implemented and understood by employees within your service area. Experience and Qualifications
Professional Qualifications and Registration:

  • Ensure relevant professional qualifications and registration are up-to-date as required.
Policy and Legal Knowledge:
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of national and local policies, statutory guidance, and legislation related to social care services.
Confidentiality and Information Governance:
  • Understand principles of confidentiality and information governance as they apply to social care practice.
Diversity Awareness:
  • Recognise the impact of diversity on practice and adapt accordingly.
Effective Communication:Communicate clearly, concisely, and jargon-free with individuals, carers, professionals, and team members.Demonstrate courteous and professional verbal and written communication.Engagement and Relationship Building:
  • Engage effectively with people in complex situations, both short-term and in long-term professional relationships.
Handling Difficult Conversations:
  • Navigate challenging conversations with individuals who may be resistant or in difficult circumstances.
Professional Reasoning and Decision-Making:Routinely explain professional reasoning, judgements, and decisions in a clear and concise manner.Record these details accurately.Skilled Judgement and Crisis Intervention:
  • Make informed professional judgements for interventions, including crisis situations and challenges.
Power Dynamics and Authority:
  • Understand differentials in power and use authority appropriately.
Working partnership:Develop collaborative relationships in multi-agency and multidisciplinary environments.Demonstrate mutual professional regard and person-centred approaches.Meeting Facilitation and Expert Support:
  • Chair various meetings and provide expert support during case discussions.
IT and Numeracy Skills:Competent in basic IT skills.Contribute to budget and resource monitoring discussions.Reflective Supervision Experience:
  • Provide professional reflective supervision to enhance practice.

Qualifications:
