Facilities Operations Manager

Bridge Operations and Facilities Manager | St Budeaux, Plymouth | Monday – Friday, 37 hours per week | £39,186 per annum, progressing to £43,421 per annum Our client is responsible for the management, operation, maintenance and administration of the two crossings over the River Tamar – Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry. 44,000 vehicles travelling with them every day, they play an important part in the local infrastructure, creating a link between Plymouth, Devon and South East Cornwall.
They are looking for an experienced Operations Manager who can calmly manage a team that must work dynamically to address changes in traffic flow, incident management, weather and breakdowns, to name but a few. The team are also the first response to concern for welfare cases on the bridge and liaise closely with the emergency services.
Please note, whilst you generally work Monday to Friday there are times when flexibility will be required to attend emergency situations or incidents out of hours. There may be occasions where there is a requirement to cover a night shift in exceptional circumstances.
Level 5 qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject e.g. logistics, transport, or business management as an example
Excellent communications skills with the ability to confidently lead by example, coaching and mentoring employees where necessary.
Working in operations management with a strong focus on customer service delivery
Significant experience in managing staff performance, setting improvement objectives and delivery of appraisals
Procurement of goods and services, including supervising consultants, contractors & suppliers
Managing budgets, planning and forecasting
Working with and setting staff rota’s
A high level of accurate and objective reporting, with complimentary writing ability, including a strong competency in using MS office software including Word, Excel and MS databases (or equivalents).
Practical experience of applying internal policies and working as part of a team.
Ensuring toll collection is conducted in accordance with financial regulations and accounting standards, to fulfil the service contracts in place.
Day to day management of the Bridge Control Centre and operational support service partners, to maintain minimum operating/service resilience standards and major incident management (including ‘Silver’ representation).
Monitoring the effectiveness of dedicated bridge control systems and processes, including toll collection interfaces, lane control and environmental monitoring systems and CCTV networks. To contribute, identify and encourage new systems or the development of policies and procedures to optimise service delivery, encouraging innovation, forward thinking and positive change management.
Ensuring appropriate facilities and security/fire management systems of the Bridge Office, grounds and public spaces.
