Do you have the experience required for leading the data platform team for our award winning ClassVR education platform?

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on, Head of Data Engineering to lead, optimise and grow our Data Management and Data Operations functions. This role is key in ensuring the integrity, efficiency and strategic utilisation of data across the business.

About you

You will be a technology leader with innovation and the science and engineering of data at your core. You will not just understand data architecture, but have a passion for how data can drive great user experiences and businesses. You will understand development processes and be able to articulate and drive process and development roadmaps. You will work across teams, leading the data platform team, and providing essential resources across the organisation, to our customers, and to our partners.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • You will lead and develop the data operations strategy and roadmap for internal business intelligence, automation and tracking of all internal metrics.
  • Development of analytical capabilities for internal platform users, equipping teams with essential metrics (e.g. MRR, churn) and seamless data integration (e.g. funnel, usage, retention).
  • Oversee the design, implementation and maintenance of data architecture, including business intelligence, CRM integrations, data warehouses, lakes and the development of ETL processes.
  • Development of real time analytics, ensuring speed and accuracy of live feedback for enhancing user engagement and operational capabilities.
  • You will understand, establish, and ensure data governance policies and procedures to ensure data quality, security and compliance with regulatory requirements, maintaining data integrity and privacy.
  • Build, mentor and manage a high-performing team of data professionals, built around collaboration, continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Foster an open data culture within the business, creating the data flows between teams and driving data knowledge.
  • Deployment and implementation of visualisation tools for BI and insights.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and innovations to enhance data operations capabilities.
  • Oversee the budget for data operations, ensuring cost-effective utilisation of resources and alignment with financial goals.
  • Own resource planning, hiring and team growth

Knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications

  • Data governance, data management, ETL processes and data architecture.
  • Data warehousing and pipeline development (e.g. Cockroachdb, Amazon Redshift, Athena, Kinesis, Kafka)
  • Data management tools and platforms (e.g., SQL, Hadoop, AWS, Azure).
  • RDBMS development (e.g. MySQL, ARDS, PostgresSQL, AzureSQL)
  • Proficient with CRM integrations and business intelligence (e.g. Hubspot, Zoho)
  • Development and creation of observability tools (e.g. Lightdash, Looker, Grafana, PowerBI, Prometheus).
  • Programming languages and file formats (e.g. Python, JSON, Excel Powerquery)
  • Experience and knowledge of code control tools (e.g. Docker, Git)
  • Experience in project management tools such as Jira, Trello, Confluence.
  • Lead teams using, scrum, agile methodologies.

Good to have

  • Experience in EdTech or full stack solutions for hardware and SaaS.
  • Experience in data compliance such as COPPA, GDPR-K
