My client, a global FMCG group, is looking to hire a Global Director of Payroll. The organisation is currently embarked on a significant transformation journey, with this role being pivotal in a wider programme of work. The company is based near Swindon and follows a pattern of 3 days a week in the office


This is a permanent, senior-leadership level role, and interviews will take place in the coming weeks.


This role will focus on the following areas:

  • Developing and Implementing Strategies: Craft comprehensive strategies that align with the organization's goals and objectives. These strategies should focus on optimizing payroll processes, ensuring compliance with international regulations, and enhancing overall efficiency.
  • Policy and Procedure Development: Establish robust policies and procedures for payroll management across all regions. These should encompass aspects such as payroll processing, data security, compliance with tax laws, and employee compensation.
  • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with global HR, Finance, IT, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure alignment and collaboration in payroll-related initiatives. Foster strong partnerships to facilitate seamless payroll delivery and address any interdepartmental challenges.
  • Building Payroll Team Capability: Lead efforts to enhance the skills and capabilities of the payroll team. Provide training, mentorship, and resources to enable them to effectively execute their roles and stay abreast of industry best practices.
  • Scope and Compliance Oversight: Oversee the scope of payroll activities and ensure adherence to compliance requirements across different jurisdictions. Stay updated on regulatory changes and implement necessary adjustments to maintain compliance.
  • Delivery of Payroll Services: Ensure the timely and accurate delivery of payroll services to employees globally. Implement quality control measures and performance metrics to monitor service delivery and address any issues promptly.
  • Advisor to Finance and HR Teams: Serve as a trusted advisor to finance and HR teams across various markets, providing guidance and expertise on payroll-related matters. Offer insights into payroll trends, risks, and opportunities to support informed decision-making.
  • Transition to Global Payroll Management: Drive the transition to consistent and efficient global payroll management. Streamline processes, leverage technology solutions, and standardize practices to achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Compliance with Company Policies and Regulations: Ensure that payroll operations comply with company policies, as well as local and international regulations. Mitigate risks associated with non-compliance through proactive measures and regular audits.
  • Shaping the Evolution of Global Payroll Function: Take a proactive approach to shaping the evolution of the global payroll function. Identify opportunities for innovation, process improvements, and strategic initiatives to drive continuous enhancement and growth.


Candidates should have/ be able to:

  • A robust background in Payroll and will have operated at a senior level within Global payroll operations previously.
  • A proficiency in utilizing payroll software for seamless end-to-end payroll processing, coupled with a deep understanding of HRIS systems and their integration with payroll platforms.
  • Demonstrate history of effective leadership and adept management within intricate payroll environments, including collaboration with payroll vendors and spearheading change initiatives.
  • a certification or professional qualification in payroll management, such as the CIPP Diploma in Payroll Management.
