We are currently recruiting to 3 Senior Practitioners for the Pre 16 EHC Assessment Team to drive improvements and to support the increased workload, and to play a central role in achieving positive outcomes for children and young people with SEND in Nottinghamshire.

The Service:

The Pre 16 EHC Assessment Team are responsible for managing the Education, Health & Care (EHC) Needs Assessment process for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. The team are also responsible for reviewing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) and securing educational placements and packages of provision for children and young people who have EHCPs.

The Role:

Senior Practitioners lead on complex casework and manage locality teams. The role also includes representing the local authority at the First-tier Tribunal (Special Educational Needs and Disability) and investigating and responding to complaints. As a Senior Practitioner you will also play a key role in supporting the Service Manager and Team Manager in delivering service improvements.

You will be required to:

Have a strong working knowledge of the Children & Families Act 2014, the SEND Regulations and the SEN Code of Practice 2015 and an understanding of the Equality Act 2010 and The Mental Capacity Act 2005.
Have detailed working knowledge of the Education, Health & Care statutory assessment process, having oversight of timescales, supporting the team to meet these as well as understanding the implications of these not being met.
Take the lead on preparing the Local Authority (LA) response to EHC Appeals (Mediation/Tribunal) and represent the LA at mediation meetings and at Tribunal hearings.
Quality assure EHC plans, ensuring that the plans are reflective of assessed needs and the CYP's aspirations are reflected, their voice is heard and that outcomes are measurable.
Facilitate and support partnership working with colleagues and teams in Education, Health and Social care to secure the best possible outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

The Person:

We are looking for a highly motivated and resilient leader with the ability to work under pressure. You will need to demonstrate your enthusiasm to improve services for young people with additional needs and be able to organise and manage your work within set statutory timescales. You will be highly skilled in communicating and negotiation with experience in working effectively with young people with additional needs, their parents/carers as well as services across of Education, Health and Social Care. As a team player, you will be experienced in managing staff and supporting them to work within timescales. Above all else, you will demonstrate an ambition to support our young people in reaching their aspirations and outcomes.
