United Kingdom OpenDelta Full time

Infrastructure Engineer

🏷️ Position: Infrastructure Engineer

🌎 Location: Remote

💻 Type: Full-time

👫 Reports to: Head-of-Engineering

🚀 About the Role

We’re a fast-growing startup looking for a talented Infrastructure Engineer who can take ownership of our cloud infrastructure. You’ll play a critical role in building and maintaining the backbone of our tech stack on AWS, ensuring that our systems are scalable, secure, and highly available. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, loves solving complex challenges, and is excited about working hands-on in a rapidly evolving startup.

You will have the opportunity to work across multiple projects, collaborate directly with our development and product teams, and shape the future of our infrastructure as we scale. If you're excited about building something from the ground up and having a direct impact on the company’s success, we’d love to hear from you

✍️ Responsibilities

  • Build and Scale: Design and implement scalable, high-availability infrastructure on AWS, supporting the rapid growth of our product and user base.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Use tools like Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or CDK to manage and automate infrastructure provisioning and updates.
  • Automation & Efficiency: Automate everything from server provisioning to CI/CD pipelines, enabling rapid development and deployment with minimal manual intervention.
  • System Monitoring: Set up real-time monitoring (CloudWatch, Prometheus, etc.) to ensure uptime, performance, and security across all environments.
  • Security First: Implement security best practices (IAM roles, VPC configurations, encryption) and ensure the infrastructure is protected from potential threats.
  • Collaborate Closely: Work hand-in-hand with developers to integrate infrastructure solutions seamlessly into the development lifecycle and CI/CD workflows.
  • Cost Optimisation: Continuously analyse our AWS usage to optimise performance while reducing costs, making sure we’re getting the best value for our spend.
  • Disaster Recovery & Backups: Build out our disaster recovery strategy to ensure business continuity in case of failures or outages.
  • Rapid Problem Solving: Respond quickly to infrastructure issues, troubleshoot outages, and help prevent problems before they arise.

🤩 What You’ll Bring

  • Cloud Expertise: Solid experience working with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, ECS/EKS, VPC), with a deep understanding of how to build secure and scalable cloud environments.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK to manage cloud resources as code.
  • Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages for automation and deployment tasks.
  • CI/CD Pipelines: Experience setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines to streamline deployments.
  • Security Mindset: Solid understanding of AWS security best practices (IAM, Security Groups, KMS) to ensure data protection and regulatory compliance.
  • DevOps Collaboration: Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS) and how to integrate these into a developer-friendly pipeline.
  • Monitoring & Incident Response: Experience with monitoring and logging tools like AWS CloudWatch, Prometheus, or ELK Stack, and responding to system alerts.
  • Startup Mentality: Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks in a fast-moving environment, and be comfortable with some ambiguity as we scale.

🍒 Nice to Have

  • AWS Certifications (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator)
  • Familiarity with the challenges of scaling infrastructure in a startup environment.
  • An interest in crypto / blockchains / financial services.

🎁 Why Join Us?

  • Make a Big Impact: You’ll be one of the early engineers, shaping the core infrastructure that powers our product.
  • Dynamic Environment: Work at the heart of a fast-paced startup, where your contributions will be visible and valued from day one.
  • Learn & Grow: We support continuous learning—whether it’s through AWS certifications or exploring the latest cloud technologies.
  • Flexibility: Remote-friendly work environment, flexible hours, and a results-driven culture.
  • Equity: Be a part-owner of the company’s future success with equity options.

🪜 Interview Process

  • Hiring Manager: 45 minute chat with the hiring manager for the role. This is our chance to better learn more about one another. We’ll tell you about OpenDelta, and you’ll tell us about yourself.
  • Technical Assessment: We'll give you a take-home assignment that simulates real-world infrastructure challenges. This will allow you to showcase your problem-solving skills and technical expertise.
  • Meet The Team: A 30-60 minutes session to meet the team you'll be working with. This is your chance to ask questions, understand team dynamics, and get a feel for our company culture.
  • Final Interview: A 45-minute wrap-up with the CEO to discuss any remaining questions and ensure mutual fit.

❓ How to Apply:

Submit your resume and a quick note about why you’re excited to join a fast-paced startup environment. We look forward to hearing from you
