Our client has is one of the UK’s most successful privately owned businesses, operating in construction, property development in the UK and UAE with around 1000 employees.

Our client is seeking a skilled Senior Design Manager based within the region and office based during tender and pre-construction stages. To support major projects to manage the overall design process from tender stage through to completion of design.


Working between Northwest sites and Warrington office


Reporting in to Divisional Director; Pre-Construction Director; Technical Director


Responsibilities:

Responsible for the day to day managing of:

  • Project design management plan comprising processes and programme
  • Procurement of design services
  • Risk management relating to the design
  • Value engineering
  • Design verification processes
  • Detailed design programme / design delivery schedule
  • Design co-ordination
  • Design team meetings and workshops
  • Document control relating to the design
  • Close liaison with other members of the project team
  • Liaison with client and other project stakeholders on design issues
  • Business development through professional contacts to identify opportunities


Specific Duties, but not limited to:

  • Interrogate and gain full understanding of the Employer’s Requirements, design brief and specifications
  • Produce and implement project specific design management processes and protocols in the form of a design management plan following company guidelines and procedures.
  • Ensure that the scope of services for incorporation into each consultant appointment meet the project requirements.
  • Arrange and chair design team meetings and workshops. Ensure minutes are produced and distributed in a timely fashion.
  • Manage design co-ordination process through design workshops and collaborative working with the designers.
  • Implement risk management reviews and workshops relating to the design and input to the project risk register.
  • Establish and monitor request for information process for the project  Establish and monitor project specific technical document control process and protocols
  • Value engineering
  • Maintain awareness of and meeting the cost plan
  • Manage design verification processes
  • Develop and monitor a detailed design programme
  • Work closely with the project team in identifying and managing change
  • Liaison with client and other project stakeholders on design issues
  • Close liaison with other members of the project team
  • Lead and motivate design manager, design co-ordinator and / or document controller working on the project
  • Establish detail requirements and responsibilities for technical handover documentation including Health and Safety File, building manuals, Building User Guide etc. and produce plan for production of the same.
  • Maintaining daily records


Requirements:

Essential:

  • Qualifications : HNC / HND
  • Certs: CSCS Card
  • Experience / Knowledge: Minimum of ten years’ experience in the design management role appropriate to the market sector and current company requirements.
  • Skills: Communication (written / verbal), Leadership and direction of team, ,Presentation skills, Organisational skills, Lateral and forward thinking, Working under pressure and self-motivated, Dynamic and proactive , Customer facing, Negotiating skills
  • Competencies: Design Management, Commercial awareness ,Decision making, Technical awareness – building technology and regulations  Awareness of innovation within the industry.
  • Computer: Outlook, Word, Excel, CAD viewer


Desirable:

  • Qualifications : Degree and / or membership of professional institution (e.g. MCIOB) or recognised career path.
  • Skills: Technical authoring for production of contractor’s proposals.
  • Computer: PCAD packages; Powerproject


Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday 8am to 5.30pm, Friday 8am to 5pm and to suit site requirements


Training offered:

  • H&S/Environmental: According to personal needs and relevancy, (SMSTS, Temporary works, asbestos, appointed persons, 1st Aid)
