Our client, a leading multi-national retailer, understands the fundamental importance of biodiversity and nature in sustaining the ecosystem services that are critical to their operations. Given the diverse range of raw materials they rely on, such as cotton, the company is committed to advancing biodiversity initiatives. They are currently seeking an Biodiversity Manager to spearhead and further develop their biodiversity program across the organisation and its supply chain. This role will also involve engaging with key external stakeholders to drive significant, positive environmental change.


Key Accountabilities:

Biodiversity Strategy Development and Implementation:

  • Lead the Strategy: Drive the creation and execution of a comprehensive biodiversity strategy that aligns with the company’s broader sustainability goals. This strategy should include clear targets, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and metrics to measure success.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and revise the biodiversity strategy to ensure it remains aligned with evolving environmental goals, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Biodiversity Management Program:

  • Program Development: Develop and implement a Biodiversity Management Program that integrates biodiversity considerations into the company’s operations and extends across the entire supply chain.
  • Program Deployment: Ensure the effective deployment of this program throughout the supply chain, fostering collaboration with suppliers to achieve biodiversity goals.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Establish Monitoring Systems: Set up a robust, science-based biodiversity monitoring system using the latest industry data, tools, and best practices to track progress.
  • Stay Informed: Maintain a deep understanding of biodiversity-related innovations and trends to continuously improve monitoring efforts.
  • Performance Tracking: Regularly track and report the program’s performance against predefined objectives, ensuring adherence to relevant reporting frameworks such as Science Based Targets for Nature (SBTN), Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

Supplier and Facility Evaluation:

  • Assess Performance: Evaluate supplier and facility performance against biodiversity-related KPIs and other relevant metrics, providing feedback and guidance to drive improvement.


Educational Background:

Candidates must meet one of the following technical education criteria:

Bachelor’s Degree in:

  • Environmental Science
  • Ecology
  • Biology
  • Forestry Management (preferred)
  • Natural Resource Management
  • Environmental Engineering

Master’s Degree in:

  • Biodiversity Conservation
  • Environmental Management
  • Sustainability Science
  • Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
  • Conservation Biology

PhD Candidates in:

Relevant Skills and Experience:

Candidates should have a mix of professional and/or academic experience in the following areas:

  • Biodiversity, Land Use, and Ecology: Practical experience in these areas is essential for leading and developing biodiversity strategies.
  • Biodiversity Monitoring and Reporting Frameworks: Strong knowledge of frameworks and best practices for biodiversity monitoring, such as those aligned with SBTN, TNFD, or other relevant standards.
  • Corporate Impact Assessments: Experience in assessing corporate impacts and dependencies on nature and integrating these findings into sustainability strategies.
  • Sustainability Commitments: Experience in establishing sustainability commitments, setting targets, and developing KPIs with a focus on nature conservation.
  • Sustainability Program Development: Proven ability to develop and implement sustainability programs, particularly those that address biodiversity.
  • Leading Restoration Projects: Experience in leading nature or biodiversity restoration projects, demonstrating the ability to manage complex environmental initiatives.
  • Biodiversity Strategy Implementation: Expertise in developing and executing biodiversity strategies within a corporate or organisational context.

Professional Certifications (Desired):

  • Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv)
  • Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM)
  • Chartered Ecologist (CEcol)

Additional Skills:
