Our client is a hydrogen-tech start-up based in London, currently developing their novel technology for decarbonisation of hydrogen production.


They have just received significant funding to allow them to expand their team, including the need for a Senior Electrochemist.


Accountabilities:

  • Characterize a wide range of metal electrodes for hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution reactions.
  • Investigate methods to enhance the performance and durability of electrodes.
  • Explore deposition methods for catalyst nanoparticles onto electrode surfaces.
  • Research corrosion tolerance of materials and develop corrosion-resistant coatings.
  • Assist the CTO with the design, fabrication, and development of electrolyser cells and modules.
  • Design experiments, pioneer new test protocols, and standardize operating procedures.
  • Manage the procurement and organization of reagents, electrochemical equipment, and consumables.
  • Report research findings to the CSO and CTO.


About the Candidate:


Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • A passion for achieving a net-zero environment and enthusiasm for innovation.
  • A PhD or significant industrial experience in electrochemistry.
  • Strong background in material science, ideally specializing in metal alloys and multi-metal oxides.
  • Proficiency in cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, chronopotentiometry, and EIS measurements, with the ability to analyse and present results effectively to non-specialists.
  • Expertise in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and presenting findings confidently.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with surface area analysis techniques.
  • A proactive and self-motivated approach to achieving company goals.


Desirable Experience:

  • Multiphysics or electrochemical modelling.
  • Expertise in corrosion chemistry.
  • Familiarity with high-pressure and high-temperature systems.
  • Experience with density functional theory (DFT) modelling of alloys.
