WaterQM (from Hard Stuff Venture Studio) is seeking a founder to act as CEO / COO / CSO in launching a new hardware + data envirotech venture in revolutionising water quality monitoring in the UK.


Problem

In 2020 there wasn’t a single riverway in the UK that was designated as having “good” water quality, currently over 75% of rivers pose a “serious risk to human health”, and the quality mapping efforts so far are lacking due to the massive expense and effort required.


Hard Stuff are developing a way to unlock full, widespread, dense, frequent mapping of water quality in the UK’s rivers and waterways to better understand and support the ongoing water quality improvements. To launch this exciting envirotech venture we’re after someone who deeply cares about the water ecosystem in the UK, with experience in the established water companies or prior experience in launching startups.


Where we are currently

  1. Hard Stuff has a new way to monitor water quality in UK rivers to vastly better map water quality combining on-site, in-water hardware and IoT + data services.
  2. This idea has been prototyped to TRL3.
  3. We’ve lined up funding routes, now we need the founding team to launch.
  4. We’ve lined up a few pilot proposals, which will start post-funding.
  5. Hard Stuff Venture Studio is the tech team that will help you launch the idea to TRL7.


Who you are

  1. This role is for a founding CEO / COO / CSO level position, you will need strong ownership of the company coming in as founder 1.
  2. You should have experience in building or leading a company, either through your own proven startup experience (bonus points for any envirotech hardware startups), or at least 5 years prior CEO / COO / CSO experience.
  3. You should have an understanding of either the water industry (sewage and/or provider) or the ecological, environmental, and health effects of poor water quality in rivers, or both
  4. You must be comfortable working as an individual (alongside the Hard Stuff Venture Studio), excited to build up your own team, and feel ready to lead a company through fundraising, product market fit, and launching. You will be supporting on all launching matters, including finding your co-founders, the rest of your C-suite, advisors and investors, and supported by the Hard Stuff Venture Studio along the way.
