Jackson Hogg are delighted to be supporting ORE Catapult with the appointment of a Project Director for their facility in Blyth, Northumberland.


This role will bring together multi discipline teams and key stakeholders, to ensure the smooth and effective project completion of £100m worth of UKRI Capital funding. This funding will further develop the worlds most advanced wind turbine blade and drive train testing assets, at our ORE Catapult site in the heart of Blyth. The new facilities will provide the ability to test blades up to 150m and drivetrains up to 23MW, which will enable the evolution of the next generation of wind turbines in the UK. Also providing over 30 new jobs and economic growth from the Net Zero economy. This is critical role, delivering significant infrastructure investment keeping the UK at the forefront of offshore wind technology development, for decades to come.


Accountabilities:

  • Delivery of a ‘first of a kind’, large scale and technically complex build of industrial test facilities, safely, on time, within agreed standards and within statutory consents
  • Developing the capability of wider operational support teams and the test facilities build team, to deliver on all aspects of a large scale build
  • Providing strategic updates on this key project to ORE Catapult Executive Team and Board
  • Managing key senior stakeholder relationships throughout the project
  • Using resources and expertise, to foresee and resolve all issues impacting deadlines and standards. Ensuring compliance with all Statutory and Company Health and Safety standards, policies and procedures, recommending and delivering improvements where necessary
  • Actively promoting our Company’s Inclusion and Diversity standards in all areas


Responsibilities:

  • Set expectations on adherence to Health and Safety behaviours for internal and external staff.
  • Lead cross directorate multi disciplined engineering teams to ensure on time delivery, to agreed specification and cost
  • Resolve complex technical challenges which meet the project objectives in the most cost effective manner
  • Meet agreed targets with full budget responsibility of the project build
  • Assume responsibility for building a comprehensive delivery team with a single team ethos between Client, Consultant and Contractor
  • Work as a member of the Senior Management Team and in particular very closely with the Director of Technology Development and wider Directorate teams to ensure co-ordination of activities and avoid duplication of effort where appropriate
  • Assume responsibility for adhering to Internal and External Governance Arrangements
  • Build effective relationships and communication channels with internal and external organisations related to the project
  • Involve and consult with the ‘Internal Client’ on all key decisions to ensure a smooth transition and handover on completion
  • Effective management of all physical and operational interfaces
  • Ensure all quality, safety and environmental standards are set, communicated to all and achieved
  • Be a catalyst for change and continuous improvement
  • Optimise the uses of labour for internal and external customer requirements with minimum cost impact
  • Involve and consult with the ‘Internal Client’ on all key decisions to ensure a smooth transition and handover on completion
  • Effective management of all physical and operational interfaces
  • Ensure all quality, safety and environmental standards are set, communicated to all and achieved
  • Be a catalyst for change and continuous improvement

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in a similar level Project leadership role, likely having already successfully delivered on a number of large scale industrial builds. First of a Kind would be an advantage
  • Ability to apply Project Management methodology
  • Commercial Awareness and budget management experience
  • Excellent people leadership and coaching skills
  • Ability to understand and interpret contractual obligations and impacts
  • Qualified to degree level in an Engineer/Technical qualification
  • Additional formal qualifications in a Project Management or business related subject would be desirable
  • Member of an appropriate professional standards body.
