EHS Advisor

You will support and contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS), Biosafety and Bio-security strategies, procedures and initiatives across the ROPU to deliver proactive EHS, Biosafety and Bio-security behaviours and enable employees to work in a compliant way, within an environment that demands strict regulatory and corporate requirements and awareness.


TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES


EHS management


  • Provide advice and recommendations to employees on matters of EHS to ensure compliance with UK EHS legislation and Corporate Requirements.
  • Participate in the the creation, development and maintenance of EHS documentation such as SOPs and Risk assessments.
  • Ensure all incidents, near misses and accidents are recorded, investigated and filed
  • Undertake EHS inspections in agreed locations.
  • Support priority projects as assigned
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of Pirbright site incident response and crisis management processes
  • Conduct periodic validation of fumigation locks at the Pirbright site
  • Participate in Global EHS audits and Regulatory (HSE or Environment Agency) visits
  • Support the follow up and close out of identified actions from investigations, risk assessments, inspections and audits.


Waste Management


  • Support the Environment Advisor to ensure all waste is appropriately segregated, sent for disposal and paperwork is maintained in accordance with legislation


Provide Information, instruction and training to Pirbright site employees on EHS topics:


  • Assist in development of Site EHS training curricular
  • Develop classroom led training courses to support the Site EHS training curricular
  • Deliver training on EHS topics as required
  • Identify training gaps and or external courses to enhance the EHS training curricular
  • Provide induction training to new employees and where applicable to visitors and contractors at the Pirbright site
  • Keep up-to-date with EHS legislative requirements


Promote improvement in the EHS culture across the ROPU:


  • Attend committee meetings and assist manage any resulting actions
  • Communicate and share key learnings from incident investigations
  • Generate EHS events and Poster campaigns to raise awareness of EHS/BSY topics across the ROPU
  • Assist with the generation and promotion of EHS/BSY KPIs
  • Actively participate in Tier 1 meetings, leading the meeting as required


Finance


  • Work with suppliers to achieve accurate and cost effective quotes
  • Raise orders on WeBuy system
  • Approve invoices as required on Invoice Track systems


REQUIREMENTS


  • National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (NEBOSH)
  • Good spoken and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage time effectively, being able to plan and complete work to schedule
  • Demonstrates a positive 'can do' attitudes
  • Ability to build relationships, uphold process and procedures
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments
  • Knowledge and experience of EHS/BSY regulations and legal framework
  • Knowledge and experience of risk assessment and root cause analysis methodolgies
  • Logical thinking and problem solving ability
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Good hazard observation skills
  • Ability to deliver training on EHS
