What You'll Do
As a US Immigration Paralegal, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks essential to supporting our clients through the immigration process. Key responsibilities include:
- Drafting advice, representations, support letters, petitions, and applications, including application and petition forms, to US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and US consular posts, as well as corresponding with third parties and providing suggested draft wording for supporting documentation.
- Conducting comprehensive legal and factual research to support immigration cases.
- Identifying relevant laws, regulations, guidance, and other pertinent material applicable to each case.
- Organising and analysing material, including supporting documents provided by clients, files transferred from other firms, and correspondence and documentation from USCIS, US consular posts, and other US government entities.
- Accompanying managers to meetings with clients to provide support and assistance and assisting with the preparation of clients for consular interviews.
- Reviewing and monitoring changes in legislation, regulations, guidance, and practice related to US immigration law.
- Performing various administrative duties, such as setting up new clients/matters, drafting communications with clients, drafting and responding to correspondence, and managing filing tasks.
- Effectively utilising the legal practice management software accurately and efficiently for document management, time logging, and other administrative tasks.
- Collaborating with external vendors or experts, such as individuals providing testimonials, as required.
- Corresponding with clients via email to gather necessary information for their cases.
- Assisting attorneys with case strategy development and legal analysis as required.
- Addressing Requests for Evidence (RFEs) by diligently gathering necessary documentation, conducting thorough research, and effectively communicating with clients and relevant parties to ensure timely and accurate responses.
Desired Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and organisational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. In addition, you will have:
- A minimum of 12 months experience as a paralegal specialising in US immigration and nationality law; alternatively, experience in UK Immigration or Employment Law will be considered.
- Demonstrated proficiency in drafting legal documents, including advice, representations, support letters, petitions, and applications, with meticulous attention to detail and adherence to established formats and guidelines.
- Proven ability to conduct comprehensive legal and factual research to support immigration cases, including identifying relevant laws, regulations, guidance, and other pertinent materials applicable to each case.
- Strong organisational skills, with the capability to effectively manage and analyse material, including supporting documents provided by clients, files transferred from other firms, and correspondence and documentation from various government entities.
- Experience in accompanying managers to meetings with clients, providing support and assistance, and assisting with the preparation of clients for consular interviews.
- Up-to-date knowledge of changes in legislation, regulations, guidance, and practice related to US immigration law, with the ability to review and monitor updates and effectively apply them to ongoing cases.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to correspond with clients via email to gather necessary information for their cases, engage with individuals effectively, and draft and respond to correspondence professionally.
- Exceptional time management skills and the capability to prioritise tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment, ensuring timely and accurate completion of assignments.
- Proficiency in utilising legal practice management software, for document management, time logging, and other administrative tasks.
- The initiative to independently initiate tasks and projects, coupled with the ability to collaborate effectively with external vendors as required.
- Understanding of legal procedures specific to US immigration law, such as filing deadlines, form requirements, and other procedures is desirable.
