The Head of IT Infrastructure and Assets will play an instrumental role in a company spinoff project, where we are establishing a new entity and transitioning all gas and power business operations to the new company. You will own setting up essential systems and processes for this transition. Additionally, your responsibilities will include maintaining and optimising IT infrastructure to ensure ongoing success and operational efficiency for the organization. Moreover, you will continue to play a key role post-spinoff, maintaining and optimising both hardware and software infrastructure for the new entity by driving IT strategy, supporting daily operations, and ensuring the growth of the newly established company.


The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of both hardware and software development, with experience in designing, implementing, and managing IT infrastructure in complex, fast-paced environments. They must also be familiar with the specific needs of the commodities trading industry, such as low-latency systems, high-performance computing, and regulatory compliance.


IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE


TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:


Hardware Knowledge


  • Experience managing IT and general office infrastructure, including servers, networking, data centres, cloud-based solutions, PCs, TVs, laptops, printers, VOIP/Telephony Infrastructure, office security devices, etc.
  • Knowledge of high-availability systems, redundancy, and disaster recovery strategies in highly regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with network architecture and low-latency solutions with multisite support.
  • Experience with building/office development and management, including budgeting for architecture, building layout, safety measures, and IT hardware deployment while also managing the physical installation of IT equipment and office assets and ensuring assets are accounted for and expenses are controlled.


Software Development


  • Understanding of software development teams to oversee design, development, and deployment of custom applications and integrations with trading platforms.
  • Understanding of software architecture and experience with both front-end (user interfaces, real time dashboards) and back-end systems (databases, APIs).
  • Familiarity with trading algorithms, data analytics, and systems that facilitate algorithmic trading and risk management.
  • Familiarity with relevant programming languages (Python, C++, Java) in trading systems development and financial modelling.
  • Deep knowledge of cybersecurity measures and respective insurance policies, covering both cyber and physical assets
  • Familiarity with developing and maintaining Document Management Systems to meet internal and external regulatory standards.

Commodities Trading Experience


  • Knowledge of trading related systems (Bloomberg, OpenLink, Allegro, Eikon) and their integrations into the broader IT architecture.
  • Experience managing real time data feeds including Bloomberg, Refinitiv, or ICE and understanding how latency and uptime impact trading decisions/experience.
  • Familiarity with ETRM systems (such as Aspect or Kiodex) and their role in tracking positions, managing risk, and regulatory compliance in commodity trading.
  • Experience implementing, auditing, and executing regulatory requirements as directed by Chief Compliance Officer.
  • Some familiarity with regulatory requirements (MiFID II, FCA, J-SOX, GDPR) and how IT systems need to be designed to meet these standards.

Startup and Stand-Up Experience


  • Proven experience in scaling IT infrastructure in startup companies or rapidly growing organizations.
  • Ability to balance short term needs with long term growth strategies making technology decisions that support future scalability without overcommitting resources.
  • Experience in vendor selection and contract negotiation for IT services, hardware, and software procurement.


Leadership and Flexibility


  • Strong leadership experience, including managing IT teams, hiring and mentoring talent, and fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Experience managing budgets, including IT spending, vendor management, and cost control.
  • Lead by example fostering a hands-on approach to problem solving and solution implementation.


SOFT SKILLS


  • Proven track record of working with international stakeholders and appropriately navigating differences in culture and work styles during high pressure situations.
  • Strong communication skills, able to present complex technical information in an accessible manner to non-technical stakeholders and C-suite executives.
  • Skilled in cross-departmental collaboration, working with traders, analysts, compliance, finance, and the executive team to align IT projects with business objectives.
  • Problem-solving mindset, with a focus on proactive risk management and innovative technology solutions.
  • Decision-making under pressure, critical in trading environments where technology issues can lead to major financial risks.
  • Customer service orientation, understanding that IT serves as the backbone of trading operations and must be responsive and reliable.


IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS


  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; a Masters or MBA would be a plus.
  • Experience: 7+ years of experience in IT roles, with at least 5 years in leadership positions such as IT Director, VP of IT, or Head of IT.
  • Industry Experience: Ideally 2+ years in the commodities trading or financial services sector, with an understanding of the technical and regulatory landscape.

  • CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional)
  • CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert)
  • Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) for IT Project Management
  • Agile or Scrum certifications for driving software development process
