Wrexham, United Kingdom Everest People Solutions Full time

Job Role: Engineering Planner

Salary: £42,000 per annum

Location: Wrexham

Type: Full Time / Permanent

Overview for the Engineering Planner

Our client is seeking an experienced Engineering Planner to join their expanding team. As a crucial member of the engineering department, you will be responsible for the coordination and planning of all engineering activities across the site. Reporting to the Head of Engineering/Engineering Manager, you will ensure maintenance schedules are executed efficiently and that resources are deployed effectively to support both production and non-production assets. Your role will be vital in establishing and implementing maintenance strategies, overseeing engineering projects, and ensuring seamless day-to-day operations.

You will develop and manage a weekly maintenance plan, aiming to minimise downtime and maximise operational readiness, while also driving continuous improvement. As the designated expert in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), you will maintain accurate data and performance records, ensuring all maintenance activities are meticulously tracked and reported.

Key Responsibilities for the Engineering Planner

  • Plan and schedule both planned and reactive maintenance work across the site, ensuring minimal disruption to operations. You will work closely with other departments to ensure all engineering activities align with operational requirements and objectives.
  • Coordinate the efforts of both internal engineering teams and external contractors, ensuring resources are used efficiently and maintenance tasks are completed within the agreed timeframes. You will be responsible for monitoring contractor performance, managing permit-to-work systems, and enforcing health and safety standards.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of the weekly maintenance plan, ensuring the engineering team has the necessary tools, equipment, and personnel available to carry out their tasks effectively. You will also assess the team’s skills against the required workload and identify training needs to ensure ongoing professional development.
  • Serve as the primary user of the CMMS, using it to track work orders, manage maintenance tasks, and maintain up-to-date records. You will generate reports on key performance indicators, such as equipment downtime, task completion rates, and overall operational performance, providing insights to inform decision-making at a senior level.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance engineering efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall safety and compliance. You will take the lead on developing new processes and refining existing ones to optimise equipment performance and engineering effectiveness.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety legislation. You will be responsible for carrying out risk assessments, ensuring safe working practices are adhered to, and that all necessary safety equipment is used for engineering tasks.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure maintenance work is coordinated with production schedules to avoid unnecessary downtime. You will keep relevant teams informed of upcoming maintenance tasks and any potential impact on production.
  • Support the development of a comprehensive asset care programme, ensuring that all productive and non-productive assets are included in the maintenance schedule. This will involve managing preventive maintenance (PPM) activities to extend equipment life and avoid breakdowns.
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities and records are compliant with internal and external audit requirements. You will maintain high standards of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and ensure all maintenance procedures meet the required standards for food safety and hygiene, where applicable.
  • Communicate regularly with the site team, providing updates on the progress of maintenance tasks, addressing any issues that could impact operations, and ensuring all stakeholders are aware of the engineering team’s activities.
  • Take ownership of engineering-related site projects, from equipment upgrades to facility expansions, ensuring these projects are planned, resourced, and executed efficiently and on schedule.
  • Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, ensuring that the CMMS is continually updated with accurate information on asset performance, maintenance history, and engineering work completed.
