Mechanical Technician

On successful appointment you will undertake a variety of mechanical maintenance tasks including, but not limited to inspections, rotating equipment overhauls, preparing equipment for statutory inspection, valve replacement, gearbox strip/rebuild work (in a workshop or field based) so that plant on-line availability is maintained, defects resolved, and routines are completed on-time.

Purpose of the Role

To undertake a variety of mechanical maintenance tasks including, but not limited to inspections, rotating equipment overhauls, preparing equipment for statutory inspection, valve replacement, gearbox strip/rebuild work (in a workshop or field based) so that plant online availability is maintained, defects resolved, and routines are completed on time.


Responsibilities

EHSQ

1. Ensure all maintenance tasks are carried out in accordance with company and statutory, environmental, health and safety standards including compliance with PPE requirements, permits and isolation procedures, the use of Risk Assessments, Method Statements and pre job hazard checks for all tasks.


Maintenance Execution

1. Maintaining all types of mechanical static and rotating equipment, including but not limited to, gear boxes, pumps, compressors, relief valves, piping, and solids handling equipment (such as elevators, conveyors, screens and mixers) across the Billingham, Portrack and North Tees sites.

2. Pre commissioning, commissioning, and fault finding on mechanical systems and components.

3. Raising, releasing and completing Work Orders and updating databases as required.

4. Raising requests for materials for the routine execution of work.

5. Inspection and record keeping or updating as part of a preventive maintenance programme.

6. To assist in the upkeep of plant drawings and documentation by reporting errors to supervision.

7. To participate in training in order to enhance skills to enable you to meet the company’s competency requirements.

8. Reviewing and helping in the upkeep of Technical Data and manuals.

9. Be willing to work outside of normal hours on a planned or call-in basis to meet the needs of the business.


Turnarounds and Events

1. Carry out turnaround and event maintenance tasks safely, on schedule, and according to the work packs, company standards and good practice.

2. As required, and when selected, execute tasks associated with the shutdown, ‘Tech Team’.


Essential Requirements

Experience

The ideal candidate is likely a highly skilled maintenance technician with a passion for mechanics and machinery. The jobholder will have a comprehensive knowledge of a variety of static, rotating and reciprocating equipment and their sub-assemblies and ancillary systems such as bearings, seals, couplings, lubrication systems etc.


Skills and Competencies

• Knowledge and understanding of legislative requirements in a COMAH top tier site and a detailed understanding of how CF complies with these through site procedures, rules and expectations.

• Detailed understanding of rotating and static mechanical equipment, including but not limited to pumps, compressors, relief valves, piping, elevators, conveyors, screens and mixers and their sub-assemblies and ancillary systems, with an ability to diagnose equipment fault and related system problems

• Knowledge and experience of the control of bolted joints, including making and inspecting safety critical joints.

• A sound understanding of petrochemical plant and solids handling equipment.

• Have experience using a computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS).

• Proficient user of MS office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.) and must have well developed written and oral communication skills.
