Clapham Junction / Hybrid


This is a hybrid role with 2 days a week at our HQ in East Croydon and 3 days working from home. However, in March 2025 we will be moving to our new HQ in Clapham Junction with 3 days a week in the office.


As a DevOps Engineer at The Gym Group (TGG), you will be at the forefront of transforming and optimising our Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Testing, and Continuous Deployment (CD) processes to enhance automation, efficiency, and resilience across our platforms.


Key duties & responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure highly available, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure and applications.
  • Support the transition to a microservices architecture, enabling rapid and reliable deployment for a seamless user experience.
  • Develop and refine infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform to automate provisioning and configuration.
  • Work with Kubernetes to manage container orchestration, ensuring high availability, scalability, and resilience of our applications.
  • Collaborate closely with Software Engineers, Architects, QA, InfoSec, and SRE teams to define and implement best practices for security, testing, and deployment.
  • Build and maintain monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively identify and resolve issues in our cloud platform and applications.
  • Support the ongoing transition to a microservices architecture, designing and optimizing deployment strategies that improve scalability and performance.Implement integrations with third-party services, such as Auth0 for authentication and Amplience for content management, to maintain secure and efficient workflows.
  • Ensure consistent quality and reliability across environments, contributing to the overall goal of continuous delivery.
  • Conduct performance testing and troubleshooting to ensure system reliability, tuning processes and infrastructure to handle increased loads.
  • Continuously research and integrate new tools, technologies, and practices that improve deployment speed, reduce errors, and enhance platform stability.


Essential Skills:

  • Excellent communication
  • Infrastructure as Code (experience with any modern IaC toolset)
  • CI/CD pipelines (experience with any modern CI/CD suite)
  • Shell scripting (examples: bash, powershell)
  • Strong experience with a major public cloud platform (Azure, AWS or GCP)
  • Containerisation (docker)
  • Awareness of network security and web application security (OWASP)

  • Azure App Service, Function App

  • FinOps and cloud infrastructure optimisation

  • The Azure APM toolchain (Monitor, App Insights, Alert Rules)
