The opportunity –

We’re offering a chance to work on industry-leading projects in the energy sector, with a focus on nuclear, hydrogen, and low-carbon energy. These projects are at the forefront of sustainability and will help shape a net-zero future. As a Project Controls Manager, you’ll work closely with our Director of Project Controls and Decarbonisation Lead to ensure the successful delivery of these pioneering schemes.

Our people-first culture encourages new ideas, celebrates successes, and offers you the chance to work on projects that inspire. You’ll be part of a collaborative team, delivering projects that are making a tangible difference in the energy sector.

Your day to day –

  • Project Planning and Scheduling: Develop and manage detailed project schedules across all phases of delivery, ensuring alignment with project milestones and client expectations.
  • Cost Control: Monitor project costs, implement cost control measures, and provide regular cost forecasts to ensure projects stay within budget.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential project risks early, develop mitigation strategies, and monitor risk throughout the project lifecycle to minimise impacts on project outcomes.
  • Performance Reporting: Generate regular progress reports, tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) such as earned value, schedule performance, and cost variances, ensuring clear communication with stakeholders.
  • Resource Allocation: Work with project teams to determine resource requirements and ensure that the necessary personnel and materials are available to meet project goals.
  • Change Management: Oversee change control processes, ensuring that any scope changes are properly documented, costed, and incorporated into the project plan.
  • Stakeholder Management: Act as the main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on project controls, ensuring alignment with client and regulatory requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Develop and implement best practices in project controls, continuously improving processes and systems to increase efficiency and project success.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all project controls adhere to industry standards and meet the regulatory frameworks, particularly in the nuclear and low-carbon energy sectors.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, project managers, and finance teams, to ensure integrated project delivery.

About you –

  • Experienced in project controls, ideally in nuclear or low-carbon energy sectors.
  • Knowledgeable about energy transition projects, particularly hydrogen and net-zero.
  • Proficient in scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera, MS Project) and cost management software.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage complex data sets and draw insights to inform project decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage stakeholder relationships.
  • A proactive problem solver, with a passion for delivering results in complex environments.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks for nuclear and low-carbon projects is a plus.

The Walker Sime Promise -

  • Competitive Salary and Benefits: Because your talent deserves to be rewarded
  • People-First Culture: Be part of a company where your personal and professional growth is a priority.
  • Innovative Projects: The chance to work on industry-leading projects shaping the future of sustainability.
  • Collaborative Environment: Join a team where your contributions are recognised and valued.
  • Exciting Growth Opportunities: Thrive in your career and unlock new possibilities as Walker Sime continues to expand.
