Be-IT is collaborating with a prominent Scottish organization to recruit a SQL Database Administrator for a full-time, permanent role.


You will be part of a dedicated team focused on ensuring the security, reliability, availability, and performance of database systems. Your responsibilities will include managing both our on-premise SQL Server infrastructure and our growing cloud database environments.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Database Administration: Responsible for the installation, configuration, monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of database performance.
  • Availability Management: Ensure the ongoing availability of database systems while implementing automated tools and processes for efficiency.
  • Capacity Management: Contribute to planning, operational monitoring, and day-to-day management of database capacity.
  • Measurement: Develop and maintain alert and monitoring solutions to proactively identify and address potential issues.
  • Problem Management: Participate in incident response, troubleshoot problems, and work proactively to prevent future incidents.
  • Systems Integration and Build: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and architect solutions that prioritize reliability, scalability, and efficient database use.
  • Tools and Methods: Implement automation processes to streamline database operations, configurations, and deployments.


Ideal Candidate:


  • Proficient in managing Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experienced with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform, PowerShell Desired State Configuration, or other scripting languages.
  • Knowledgeable in database design, architecture, and security practices.
  • Familiar with always-on availability groups and encryption techniques such as Always Encrypted.
  • Comfortable using source control and CI/CD tools, including GitHub and Azure DevOps.


Position Details:


  • Permanent role
  • Salary up to £55k annually, based on experience
  • Glasgow-based with a hybrid work model: expected to be in the office two days every fortnight
  • 33 days of annual leave
  • Must have the right to work in the UK; sponsorship is not available.
