Chief Geological Officer

We have been retained to recruit an experienced geology leader by a UK headquartered Asset Management company with a leading exploration and development subsidiary which is dedicated to sustainably unlocking natural resources. This Chief Geological Officer appointment represents an excellent opportunity to help the owners and their investors to continue with ambitious international expansion plans.

 

The Role:

Reporting to CEO and Board the role holder will lead our client’s geological team and drive their exploration and production efforts. The Chief Geological Officer will be responsible for providing strategic direction, technical expertise, and leadership in all geological aspects of operations.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Further develop and implement the company's geological strategy in alignment with overall Group business objectives.
  • Oversee the identification, evaluation, and acquisition of prospective exploration and production assets.
  • Lead geological assessments to optimise drilling locations and development plans.
  • Provide expert guidance on geological interpretation and geological modelling.
  • Ensure the application of cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to enhance exploration success and reservoir performance.
  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of geologists, geophysicists, and reservoir engineers.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant geological regulations, industry standards, and best practices. Stay abreast of emerging trends and regulations in the geological field.
  • Prepare and manage Budgets as required for operating and capital expenditure in line with the company’s objectives and broader financial plans.


The successful individual will likely have:

 

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Geology, Geophysics, or a related field.
  • Ideally with a Professional Geologist Certification.
  • Proven track record in geological exploration and production, including successful team leadership and project delivery.
  • Proven expertise in geological interpretation and geological modelling.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to integrate complex geological data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Proficiency in relevant geological software and technologies.

 

Compensation:

 

Competitive market and region related remuneration; ideally, you’ll be located in the UK but we will consider applications from well-qualified individuals internationally, especially in Canada, who are prepared to travel.
