We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Life Science Underwriter to lead and manage a dedicated Life Science team. This role is pivotal in setting the strategic vision, supporting day-to-day operations, and driving the growth and profitability of our Life Science portfolio. You will play a key role in talent development, managing client relationships, and ensuring the success of underwriting strategies. This position involves the underwriting of complex existing business in the Life Science sector. This can be any combination of mono-line or packaged Employers Liability, Public Liability, Products & Services Liability, Property, Clinical Trials and Errors and Omissions and Cyber.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead the Life Science team, supporting their day-to-day needs and driving talent development. Act as a mentor to junior team members, offering guidance and technical expertise.
  • Client & Broker Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with brokers, clients, and key market stakeholders. Act as the face of the company in the Life Science sector through regular engagement with industry forums, events, and key clients.
  • Underwriting & Risk Management: Manage and underwrite complex Life Science accounts, including Employers Liability, Public Liability, Products & Services Liability, Property, Clinical Trials, Errors & Omissions, and Cyber. Ensure compliance with underwriting strategy and manage portfolio performance.
  • Financial Execution & Strategy: Contribute to the achievement of Life Science and branch goals related to profitability, retention, rates, and client relationships. Oversee financial forecasting, tracking, and portfolio management.
  • Market Expertise: Serve as a technical expert in the Life Science sector, representing the company at external events and forums, and ensuring our product offering is well communicated to the market.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal stakeholders such as Life Science Managers, Product Leaders, Claims, and Loss Control teams to assess risks and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Process Improvement & Best Practices: Drive the adoption of best practices in underwriting and operational processes, ensuring data integrity and adherence to underwriting authority.
  • Coaching & Mentorship: Provide coaching and support to junior underwriters, offering guidance on complex accounts and fostering a collaborative team environment.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Underwriting Expertise: Strong underwriting experience with the ability to hold high levels of underwriting authority in at least one CORE line of business.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong expertise in risk analysis, claims interpretation, and loss control strategies.
  • Broker Relationship Management: Proven ability to develop and negotiate relationships with brokers and clients, ensuring successful business outcomes.
  • Leadership & Team Management: Experience in managing and leading a team, with a focus on mentorship, performance development, and collaboration.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex propositions to clients, brokers, and internal teams.
  • Multinational Experience: Experience underwriting multinational clients, with knowledge of program structures and compliance requirements.
  • Education & Qualifications: ACII qualified or working towards certification preferred, but not essential.
