Principal Lawyer (SEN)
Join a dynamic legal team dedicated to delivering innovative legal services for public sector organizations. This position is a fixed term contract, 15-18 months and offers a salary of circa £60,000–£75,000.
As Principal Lawyer you will lead a talented team of legal professionals and play a pivotal role in shaping high-quality legal advice around Special Educational Needs and education law. Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice and services to public sector clients, focusing on litigation and SEN/education matters.
- Advise client organizations on statutory duties and obligations, ensuring compliance and safeguarding their best interests.
- Develop and deliver legal training courses tailored to the needs of diverse professional audiences.
- Manage a complex, politically sensitive caseload, ensuring timely, well-researched, and comprehensive legal support.
- Supervise and mentor your team, ensuring professional guidance, effective workload distribution, and continuous development.
- Oversee team performance, productivity, recruitment, and appraisals to maintain high standards of service.
- Represent clients in court, tribunals, and negotiations, providing skilled advocacy when required.

Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified legal professional: Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, member of the Bar (post-pupillage), or a Fellow/Chartered Legal Executive.
- Extensive experience of SEN and education law matters.
- Familiarity with school admissions and exclusion appeals processes.
