The client is currently looking for an experienced SRE to join their site reliability engineering team in the Bristol City Centre office. You will be part of a multi-skilled, growing team, of industry experts. Given opportunity to learn and develop a lasting, rewarding career with a stable company that’s a household name. You will continually enhance and support the continuous integration services and infrastructure to continually improve project delivery, time to deliver, whilst maintain and improving quality. This person will support the overall infrastructure (mostly on-premises), that has been built utilising virtualization, containerization and orchestration tools across Linux and Windows platforms, with projects to deliver cloud-based services planned. We seek to optimize and automate wherever possible, solve challenging problems using new technologies and are enthusiastic about developing, learning, and experimenting.

Responsibilities:

  • Using Ansible and Terraform to deploy and maintain services such as Jenkins, TeamCity, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and custom web services.
  • Creating and maintaining service documentation, guides, and processes.
  • Deploying new and maturing existing services to conform to best practices, standards, and vulnerability patching. Providing self-service solutions via Rundeck.
  • Contributing to service monitoring and testing such as defining alerts, creating dashboards, and writing unit tests via Telegraf, Prometheus, Grafana and Pester.
  • Coordinate with internal and external teams to efficiently support development team requirements. Attending and running stakeholder meetings with internal customers.
  • Creation of software installation packages forming part of Configuration as Code.
  • On rotation, act as the primary point of contact to triage new issues and requests, monitor alerts, respond to ad-hoc queries and provide troubleshooting assistant.
  • Support, maintain, monitor, diagnose problems and identify inefficiencies in our continuous integration systems, workflows and dependencies used by our development and test engineers.



Must Have Experience:

  • BSc in Computer Science / Engineering degree or equivalent industry experience (two years’ SRE type experience or five years in an IT Engineering role with AWS (Amazon Web Services) experience).
  • A good academic background is beneficial, however an ability to demonstrate relevant experience and capabilities will be of equal merit to academia.
  • We are open to hearing from applicants with varying experience levels. All candidates must have the following experience:
  • Communicating with stakeholders (Software Developers, IT Engineers, and Project Managers) on technical subjects.
  • Worked with continuous integration systems (ideally Jenkins or TeamCity).
  • Linux or Windows systems administration (ideally both).
  • Configuration management automation (ideally Ansible and Terraform).
  • Worked with virtualization solutions (ideally VMware).
  • Competent in scripting languages (ideally Python, PowerShell, or bash).
  • Basic understanding solutions hosted in Cloud Services (ideally Amazon Web Services)
  • Basic understanding and use of Git and GitHub.
  • Fundamental understanding of networking technologies.
  • Additionally, to be considered as an experienced applicant you will need to be practised in:
  • Communicating with stakeholders to determine the direction and future work.
  • Maintaining and configuring continuous integration systems, ideally Jenkins or TeamCity.
  • Strong Linux or Windows systems administration.
  • Worked on solutions hosted in Cloud Services (Amazon Web Services).
  • Strong understanding and use of Git and GitHub.
  • Experience analysing business and stakeholder needs, identifying technical solutions, and designing implementation plans.


Nice to have

  • Agile working SCRUM/Kanban.
  • Issue and incident management (ITIL) with exposure to tracking and task management systems. Working with service desk management tools.
  • Experience working with metrics, dashboarding and alerting solutions. Such as Grafana Dashboards/Alerts, Telegraf and Prometheus.
  • Software package creation (NuGet/Chocolatey).
  • Containers and Orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Database administration (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL).
  • Knowledge of web server technologies (Nginx, Apache, HAProxy).
