Role Overview

We are partnering with one of the UK's leading utilities contractors in recruiting an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor. Due to significant growth and new contract wins.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for leading the cost management and contractual aspects of electrical utilities projects, ensuring successful delivery while maximising profitability and maintaining high standards of quality and compliance. This role requires a seasoned professional with strong leadership skills and the ability to manage complex projects from inception to completion.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Management:

  • Lead the preparation of accurate cost estimates and detailed project budgets.
  • Monitor project costs throughout the lifecycle, identifying cost-saving opportunities and managing variances.
  • Provide strategic advice on cost planning and procurement strategies to optimise project outcomes.

Contract Administration:

  • Manage the preparation, negotiation, and administration of construction contracts, including variations, claims, and disputes.
  • Ensure contracts comply with legal, regulatory, and client requirements.
  • Provide guidance and support to project teams on contractual matters, resolving issues promptly and efficiently.

Tendering and Procurement:

  • Oversee the tendering process, including preparing tender documents, evaluating bids, and selecting suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Negotiate contract terms and conditions with suppliers and subcontractors to achieve favourable project outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, consultants, and subcontractors.

Cost Control and Reporting:

  • Develop and implement cost control measures to ensure projects are delivered within budgetary constraints.
  • Prepare regular cost reports and forecasts, highlighting key cost drivers and variances.
  • Analyse project performance against budgetary targets and recommend corrective actions as necessary.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and assess risks associated with electrical utilities projects, including cost overruns, delays, and contractual disputes.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimise the impact of risks on project outcomes.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to project teams in managing risks effectively throughout the project lifecycle.

Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Mentor and coach junior quantity surveyors, providing guidance on best practices and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, encouraging teamwork and knowledge sharing.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and commitment to excellence in quantity surveying.

Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in quantity surveying, construction management, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in quantity surveying within the electrical utilities sector.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and cost management principles.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor teams, manage complex projects, and deliver results within budget and time constraints.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications and tools.
