About XOCEAN

XOCEAN is an ocean data company – we collect data for clients ranging from mapping the seabed to monitoring the environment. However, we do this differently, instead of using conventional crewed survey ships, we have developed a marine robotic system known as an Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV).


Overview

Responsible for the safe navigation and safe conduct of the USV.


Main Duties & Responsibilities

The USV Master has the ultimate and overriding authority and the responsibility to make decisions, with respect to safety and pollution prevention and to request the Company’s assistance as necessary. The USV Master / Pilot must ensure that the USV is operated within the confines of XOCEANs Business Processes (Management System) at all times.

Responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out duties to ensure the safe navigation of the USV at all times.
  • Monitoring and providing communications to the Marine & Project Management teams.
  • Preparing and assisting in the completion of relevant documentation within the management systems.
  • Ensuring that all USV equipment is fully functional and report any defects immediately.
  • Maintaining the USV official logbooks correctly.
  • Monitoring and reporting on all weather systems for the operation.
  • Planning, preparing Passage planning for to USVs.
  • Updating navigational charts and digital publications.
  • Assisting with the assessment and implementation of survey routes and monitoring the quality of data being collected during survey operations (training will be given).
  • Has overall responsibility for the Health, Safety and Welfare of all personnel directly involved with the physical operations of the USV.
  • Promoting a positive health and safety culture within the organisation.
  • Reviewing & developing Operational Risk Assessments and ensuring that they have appropriate and sufficient mitigations.
  • Any other duties as required by the Marine Superintendent / Deputy.


The USV Master will be willing to assist in other roles when not engaged in pilot duties, including:

  • Survey Data processing and cleaning (training will be given).
  • Supporting the mobilisation and maintenance of USV’s.
  • Participate in Drills and further training for the role.


Health, Safety & Environment

The USV Master will:

  • Work in accordance with & promote XOCEAN’s management system and Business Processes.
  • Complete the Competency training within defined timelines.
  • Fully commit to preventing any damage to the environment.
  • Comply with the XOCEAN management of risk and ensure that Risk Assessments are carried out for all tasks.
  • Participate in the HSE safety observation programme.


Requirements: Essential Skills – Experience – Attributes

  • STCW Master 200T (UK - Code vessel) with unlimited area of operations (or equivalent).
  • GMDSS GoC.
  • Valid STCW (Manila) Certificates.
  • Have strong Knowledge of Collision Regulations and sea going experience.
  • Strong computer literacy.
  • Enthusiastic, positive & proactive.
  • Full clean driver’s license.


Desirable Experience

  • Held a similar position in a similar role.
  • Have a willingness to learn new processes and procedures in the evolving Remote / MASS industry.
  • Experience in offshore Surveying operations.
  • High level of IT expertise.
