Role title: Intervention Worker

Reports to: Head of School

Salary: £17,500

Hours: 33.5 Per week Term-time only, plus 5 T&P days

Location: Church Lane, Oldham


Purpose of role: Provide targeted support to help students overcome behavioural, social, or emotional challenges that may be hindering their academic progress. This involves identifying and addressing the underlying causes of any difficulties, working closely with students and implementing tailored strategies to promote positive behaviour and well-being. You will collaborate with colleagues, parents, and external agencies to create individualized plans that foster a safe and supportive learning environment.


Key responsibilities:

  • Helping learners who are underperforming in their subjects on a one-to-one basis outside the classroom or within lessons.
  • Implementing strategies and supporting learners in self-esteem and confidence-building activities.
  • Listening to and helping learners resolve a range of issues that are creating barriers to learning.
  • Drawing up agreed action plans with learners, outlining the aims of the mentoring, and monitoring their progress.
  • Advising parents on behaviour strategies and parenting skills.
  • Networking with other learning mentors, teachers and relevant external agencies.
  • Organising drop-in 'offload' sessions for learners, where they can talk about a particular issue.
  • Maintaining accurate records and preparing written reports and evaluations.
  • Managing your own professional development through undertaking relevant training and sharing best practice with other learning mentors.
  • Planning and delivering lessons as per the request of centre management.
  • Providing cover for lessons in the absence of colleagues.


Preferred experience:

  • Experience of working in a SEN secondary school setting as an Intervention Worker with a proven record of reaching children with social, emotional or physical barriers to learning.

  • Planning and delivering sessions to pupils is of expected standard.
  • Recording incident/accidents and updating pupil records.
  • Being creative, innovative and adding value to the curriculum and provision.
