Job Description

What will you be doing?

As a Power Electronics Engineer, you will join Midlandsteam to support our activities within the Nuclear, Naval, Infrastructure Electrical, High Voltage Electrical Power Systems, and Defencesectors.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Design and engineer power electronics systems, including power converters, inverters, and other systems in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Conduct analyses and calculations to ensure the integrity, efficiency, and safety of designed power electronics systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate power electronics designs into larger project frameworks.
  • Participate in design reviews to evaluate and refine concepts, ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Develop detailed schematics and drawings for construction and installation.
  • Adapt to changing project requirements and priorities, effectively managing workload and timelines.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, both internal and external, to address inquiries and resolve issues.

Qualifications

Experience, skills and qualifications required:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related fields.
  • 4-15 years of experience in power electronics and semiconductor devices.
    • Proficiency in power electronics, power converter design, DC-DC converters and DC-AC inverters, power electronics circuits design, gating electronics design, and thermal design for semiconductors.
    • Knowledge of components such as diodes, thyristors, IGBTs, GTOs, IGCT, MOSFETs, SiC, and GaN.
    • Proficiency with software tools such as MathCAD, PLECS, PSpice, and Matlab/Simulink.
    • Knowledge of power electronics converter design and electrical machines control methods.
    • Understanding of classification rules (e.g., DNV, ABS, Lloyds) for marine and relevant IEC and HSE standards.
    • Experience in developing analytical and modelling tools for power electronic systems.
    • Exposure to large-scale power electronics (MW scale).
    • Proficiency in system design, system verification, modelling, analysis, thermal studies, EMC and harmonic studies, performance optimisation for power electronics.
  • SC Requirements:
    • Must be assessable for BPSS clearance.
