Main duties of the job

Every baby, child, young person and familyare different, every conversation and everything we put into place for ourfamilies is supported with an individualised plan of care. You will have excellent clinical skills, be a goodcommunicator and strive to make a difference in creative and demonstrable ways.

As a Registered Nurse it is essential that you hold afirst or second level registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and in addition, would beadvantageous to possess post registration experience in a childrens, communitypalliative care setting. Flexibility is essential as the working hours are based on an internalrotation which includes days, nights and weekends and as the care we provide ispredominantly in the community, access to a vehicle is essential, as is a fulldriving licence.

Job responsibilities

Tobe a key member of the clinical multi -disciplinary team. Tocontribute to the effective and efficient delivery of holistic care for babies,children and young people with life limiting/shortening illnesses, theirfamilies and significant others. To promote thehighest quality care and support for babies, children and young people, theirfamilies and significant others. To workas a member of the multi -disciplinary team using initiative in planning andevaluating patient care. To provide carein the Community and Hospice setting. To bemotivated, enthusiastic and forward thinking in developing a holistic focussed service. Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Current Registered Nurse, on the NMC register Evidence of post registration learning Full driving licence

Desirable

Registered Childrens Nurse qualification Diploma in Palliative Care or equivalent Bereavement training Teaching and mentoring qualification

Experience

Desirable

Post registration experience in a childrens community or palliative care setting. Previous experience of supporting students and junior members of staff. Demonstration of palliative care experience/nursing children with life threatening and life limiting conditions including children with special needs. Previous experience working with children with tracheostomies and/or requiring long term ventilation. Experience with intravenous line care and therapies including parenteral nutrition.

Knowledge, Skills & Qualities

Essential

Understanding of Childrens Palliative and End of Life Care. Knowledge of assessment care planning and review process and pathways. Awareness of regulatory safeguarding policies and procedures. Awareness of application of the Mental Capacity Act. Good interpersonal skills and team working skills. To be able to evidence good decision-making skills. Awareness of general pain and symptom management guidelines -desirable. To be confident in using information technology including use of SystemOne - desirable. Self motivated with good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to make clear and effective verbal and written reports incident reporting patient notes team meetings etc Qualities Good interpersonal skills. Effective time management skills and ability to organise own workload without direct supervision. To be receptive to change and to act as a change agent. Ability to maintain excellent rapport with patients, colleagues and visitors to the Hospice. Able to perform the role with empathy and consideration for the needs of babies/children/young people and their relatives. To be able to manage own time effectively. To demonstrate a calm and logical approach to problem solving. To consistently demonstrate a dedicated approach to the quality of patient services in a constructive and efficient way
