Job summary

Please see this great opportunity to work closely alongside the Children and Young People (CYP) Transformation team and the senior nursing team at NHSE working on programmes across the Long-Term Plan, being the voice and advocate for CYP nurses across England. Leading and supporting our CYP nurses to continue to deliver high quality care. This autonomous role will help shape policy and strategy and work alongside the senior operational teams when there are times of incidence. If you want to continue to develop and shape children's nursing, are an experienced CYP nurse leader and have extensive knowledge of delivery of CYP healthcare, then this is the role for you.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

Provide autonomous expert advice to support national and regional plans. Deputise for the Deputy CNO on matters related to CYP. Work alongside the others to oversee all CYP policy and quality improvement work within NHSE. Be responsible for the strategic nursing leadership for CYP within the Nursing Directorate on behalf of NHSE, in all healthcare settings, including acute and community trusts. They will also ensure that NHSE provides system support for providers to deliver high quality, safe and sustainable CYP services now and in the future. Ensure excellent engagement with national, regional and local clinical and quality improvement stakeholders to ensure improvements to CYP care are at the centre of service provision. Work closely with the patient safety team to support improvement in outcomes and safety across CYP services. Work closely with all other Directorates to ensure that CYP services align with national objectives, the needs and challenges facing the whole system and patients who use it.

As an NMC registered nurse, the postholder will draw upon knowledge and experience gained through clinical practice and education to inform operational and policy decisions within this role to ensure the success of the programme.

Current UK NMC Children's Nurse registrant without sanction. Educated to master's level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area. In depth additional expert knowledge acquired over a significant period in a children's care environment. Proven and significant leadership experience and/or formal management qualification. Highly developed communication skills with the ability to communicate on highly complex matters and difficult situations. Demonstrable expertise in working with children, young people and their families strategically. Demonstrable commitment to partnership working with a range of external organisations.
