Sheffield, United Kingdom Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job summary

The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology (SYBP) Partnership is hosted by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and delivers clinical laboratory services to 5 Partner Trusts across South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw.

We are appointing up to 4 FTE Consultant Histopathologists, including one Consultant Neuropathologist at Sheffield. At present we operate adult histopathology laboratories at Sheffield, Chesterfield, Rotherham and Doncaster. SYBP's future operating model envisages a single consolidated histopathology laboratory in Sheffield. Most of our Consultants are already based at Sheffield, practicing in subspecialist teams. A variety of areas of subspecialist practice can be accommodated subject to the needs of the service and the special interests of the applicant. The Neuropathology post will be based at Sheffield. One of the 3 Histopathology posts will primarily be based at our Chesterfield site. We envisage other posts will be primarily based at Sheffield but applications from candidates willing to provide rotational support to services at Doncaster or Rotherham pending our laboratory consolidation would be welcome.

Main duties of the job

Our consultants typically practice in 1 to 3 subspecialist areas of practice in line with their interests and with the needs of the department. Direct Clinical Care (DCC) work includes appropriate dissection, histology and cytology reporting, and MDT preparation and delivery. Specimen dissection is also BMS led in some specialties.

We are committed to lean working and the appropriate use of technology is required. The department has two high-capacity digital slides scanners and primary digital reporting is increasingly used within the department - the appointee will be expected to participate in this and to actively support the departmental adoption of digital pathology.

Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the department to discuss their applications.
