Job overview

About the Role

The Paediatric Psychology Service at Bedfordshire Hospitals is a welcoming and community-minded team working to support children, young people and families who are living with long-term medical conditions. Psychology is a valued part of our hospital’s approach to patient care, and we work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to support our children and families to thrive.

Due to service expansion, we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 8a psychologist or psychological therapist to join our team.

You will be joining a small, friendly, and innovative team of professionals who have experience of work utilising a range of psychological approaches and across a variety of medical presentations. Clinical supervision will be provided by the Lead Paediatric Clinical Psychologist. Our service has good links with local CAMHS colleagues, which provides excellent opportunities for joint working and for continued professional development. We also have close links with the DClinPsy programme at the University of Hertfordshire, and there may be opportunities to supervise trainee clinical psychologists and to be involved in other aspects of clinical psychology training (if desired).

Main duties of the job

You will provide specialist psychological assessments, formulations, and interventions as part of an interdisciplinary team, and work with individuals, families, and groups (both in person and online). You will also support our staff teams, using your knowledge and experience to provide teaching and consultation on psychological aspects of managing long-term conditions, to help develop and embed psychologically-informed care within our organisation. This role will include work within medical areas where psychology is already well integrated, as well as have significant scope to develop our service and build relationships with medical areas where psychological support is not currently available. It will suit someone who is passionate about paediatric health and who enjoys working creatively to provide high quality care for our service users.

You will have a British Psychological Society accredited post-graduate doctoral degree in an applied field of psychology (clinical, health or counselling), or relevant qualifications to be registered as a psychological therapist (Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy or Family Therapy), and registration (HCPC, BACP, BABCP). You will have experience of working with children, young people, and families (ideally in a physical health setting or with chronic health conditions), as well as experience delivering individual and group interventions.

Working for our organisation

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital services to a growing population of around 700,000 people living across Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas across two busy hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. Both hospital sites offer key services such as A&E, Obstetrics-led Maternity and Paediatrics.

You will be joining a friendly, high performing Trust committed to ensuring the health and wellbeing of staff. As one of the largest NHS Trusts in our region you will have access to a programme of high quality training and development to help you grow your career.

We have state-of-the art facilities placing us at the heart of cutting edge health care. The Trust continues to be committed to delivering the best patient care using the best clinical knowledge and technology available.

Please note that vacancies may close prior to the advertised closing date when sufficient number of applications have been received. Please ensure that you make your application as soon as possible.

All new staff will be subject to a probationary period covering their first six months in post. Travel between hospital sites may be required.

Please review all documents attached to this advert to ensure you familiarize yourself with all requirements of the job.
