Job summary

Haverhill Family Practice has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced practice nurse to join our team on a full-time basis, for hours per week (the practice also have a part-time practice nurse position available - job no. 7477). The post holder will provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients, as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced RGN and any additional roles agreed between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate, having regard to current training.

Main duties of the job

Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by Senior Nurse and GPs Cytology Wound care / ulcer care/Doppler Removal of Sutures Urinalysis Travel Clinic ECGs Asthma/peak flow readings/spirometry Venepuncture Hypertension management Routine immunisations/childhood immunisations Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs Interest in diabetes or coronary heart disease and contraception. Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurse or GPs as appropriate Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.

About us

Haverhill Family Practice is a GP surgery located in the market town of Haverhill, Suffolk. We are within walking distance of the town centre and the main bus station. We are a five-partner GP practice, with our clinical team comprising regular locum GPs, emergency care practitioners (ECPs), paramedics, nurse practitioners, practice nurses, healthcare assistants and clinical pharmacists. In addition we also have in-house first contact physiotherapists and mental health link workers. In addition to normal GP services we provide a minor surgery clinic, Covid vaccination clinics (both adult and children), home visits by our nursing staff to monitor long term medical conditions. Quarterly training sessions are provided by West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group (WSCCG). The practice closes one afternoon so that all clinical staff can attend. We also offer monthly Lunch & Learn sessions for the clinical team. We are a friendly, busy practice with excellent staff retention. We have recently been approved as a GP Training Practice. Our CQC rating is Good.

Minimum 2 years experience post registration Evidence of appropriate knowledge base Understanding of health and safety issues Evidence of clinical skills and experience in treatment room consultation Assess complex health & wellbeing needs and develop, monitor and review care plans to meet specific needs Competence in clinical practice associated with the role Problem-solving and decision-making skills Understanding of the wider determinants of health, including social, economic and environmental factors and their impact on communities Knowledge of IT systems, including ability to use word processing skills, emails and the internet to create simple plans and reports Experience of working in a community development context, adult health and social care, learning support or public health/health improvement Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and/or managerial training Portfolio of CPD with evidence of ability to maintain professional registration Ability to listen, empathise with people and provide person centred support in a non-judgemental way Able to get along with people from all backgrounds and communities, respecting lifestyles and diversity Able to support people in a way that inspires trust and confidence, motivating others to reach their potential Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with people, their families, carers, community groups, partner agencies and stakeholders.
