Job summary
The Rehabilitation Service provides inpatient rehabilitation beds across Hertfordshire in three inpatient units. The units are part of the Trust's whole systems approach to recovery from mental illness. The delivery of the service is based on the standards outlined in the Royal College of Psychiatrists template for rehabilitation services, the Joint Commissioning Panels guidance for rehabilitation services and the Accreditation for Inpatient Mental Health Services - Inpatient Rehabilitation Units.
The Rehabilitation Service delivers a high quality and clinically effective rehabilitation programme, as part of a whole systems recovery care pathway, to people whose needs cannot be met by non-hospital adult mental health services within the recovery care pathway.
The service is for people with complex mental health needs who cannot be discharged directly from hospital to an independent or supported community placement due to their on-going high levels of need. The focus is on facilitating further recovery, optimising medication regimes, engagement in psychosocial interventions and gaining skills for more independent living.
Main duties of the job
It is envisaged that the post holder will work 10 programmed activities over 5 days. Following the appointment there will be a meeting at no later than three months with the clinical manager to review and revise the job plan and objectives of the post holder. The overall split of the programmed activities is 8 to be devoted to direct clinical care and 2 to supporting professional activities (as per the Royal College of Psychiatrists recommendation). The timetable is indicative only. A formal job plan will be agreed between the post holder and associate medical director or clinical manager three months after commencing the post and at least annually thereafter.

Roles & responsibilities Under supervision of a consultant
To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
To participate annually in a job plan review with the line manager, which will include consultation with a relevant manager in order to ensure that the post is developed to take into account changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernisation. To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services, and share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management.
To comply with the Trusts agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the medical director and other managers in preparing plans for services.
Provision of psychiatric expertise to the EROS team
To undertake outpatient clinics, and home visits and participate in multidisciplinary case discussions.
To liaise effectively with primary care and mainstream mental health services.
To have regular clinical supervision with the consultant psychiatrist. It is the post holders responsibility to ensure that this is booked.
To carry out assessments under the Mental Health Act as and when appropriate. To write reports for Tribunal and renewal hearings for patients detained under CTO and provide medical evidence in the hearings

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable
MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
ELIGIBILITY
Essential
Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
Desirable
In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice. Section 12/Approved clinician approval.
CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Essential
A minimum of 4 years' full time post graduate training (or it's equivalent gained on a part time of flexible basis) at least two years of which to be within a psychiatry training programme or as fixed term Specialty Trainee within psychiatry o; or have equivalent experience and competencies. Ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams Excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent clinical skills using bio-psychosocial perspective and wide medical knowledge.
Desirable
Clinical experience in a range of services within Psychiatry. Excellent degree of medical knowledge in relation to complex psychosis. Experience of working in Rehabilitation Psychiatry.
ACADEMIC SKILLS LIFELONG LEARNING
Essential
Ability to demonstrate clinical problem-solving in interdisciplinary areas Possession of good organisational skills Be able to actively listen and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Holds a full valid driving license and access to a car (Unless you have a disability as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act 1995). Has actively participated in clinical audit.
