Job summary

We are looking for a part-time Practice Education Facilitators (PEF) to work with our community nursing teams to support Health Care Support Workers, pre-registration nursing students and student Nursing Associates.

You will work to create a positive learning environment where staff development is encouraged and supported. Working closely with Education Leads, Service Managers and Clinical Leads to support induction, competence development & CPD .

You will use your clinical expertise to deliver the Care Certificate & practice education, & to promote high standards of care. You will work with the Universities & partner Trusts, undertaking a role in practice development to support service improvement & quality of will assist the Education Leads to audit practice & disseminate information on educational and practice developments; and also support the Trust Preceptorship Programme.

Main duties of the job

Be a highly visible clinical role model, working alongside staff in clinical practice, supporting the new starters and students and their supervisor's/assessors.

Work with managers and supervisors to establish mechanisms for enhancing, developing and assessing the quality of placement learning. Deliver local induction to learners Provide support and deliver training to supervisors/assessors. Deliver work-based learning and informal teaching/facilitation for Student Nursing Associates Work alongside the Education Leads to provide support to students and supervisors/assessors in practice for nursing and allied health professionals. Support staff members to meet the requirements for apprenticeship programmes Assist in maintaining the practice learning environment as an effective placement for learners to meet the competencies required of them and meets the required standards

MAIN DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational Delivery

Training

Assist in the delivery of local induction to ensure learners are suitably prepared for practice and placements. Assist in the delivery of training sessions for supervisors/assessors. Participate in the Trusts Preceptorship Programme Provide training in response to clinical need/incidents and quality improvement initiatives.

Education

Assist the Education Lead to work with managers and supervisors to establish mechanisms for enhancing, developing and assessing the quality of placement learning. Assist with the delivery of work-based learning for Student Nursing Associates across partner placement areas. Assist with the delivery of informal teaching/facilitation as agreed within the trusts and the University partnership. Work alongside the Education Leads to provide support to students and supervisors/assessors in practice for nursing and allied health professionals. Work closely with learning and development team to manage learners entry requirements onto apprenticeship programmes Facilitate focus groups for clinical staff bands 2-4 undertaking apprenticeships. Support the Learning and Development Co-ordinator in monitoring and maintaining a database of staff on clinical apprenticeships. Provide professional advice and support to staff who are acting as supervisors in placement partner Trusts.

Patient / Customer Care

On a daily basis, be a highly visible clinical role model, working alongside staff in clinical practice, supporting the new starters and students and their supervisors/assessors.

Will support and work with learners who are experiencing challenges within the clinical setting and will document progress and learning objectives of these individuals. To escalate any issues with the learners progress to the relevant staff within the Trust and the HEI link tutor Work clinically to maintain own knowledge, skills and clinical credibility, demonstrating high standards of practice and clinical expertise in the care of adult patients and the public Be prepared to work alongside colleagues in non-nursing roles to understand the requirements of different professions/areas. Contribute to an environment in which effective practice-based learning is fostered, implemented, evaluated and shared. Remain abreast of the developments in clinical practice and implement/lead changes as appropriate. Foster an environment of enquiry and evidence-based care within the clinical areas Be prepared to assist clinical areas within the Trust at times of high demand.

Strategic Management

Audit and Research

Assist the Education Leads to utilise, develop and review tools to audit and evaluate educational and professional practice and education programmes/materials.

Service Development and Improvement

Promoting Quality for Practice Learning

Assist in supporting the quality of learning environments which ensure the workforce is fit for practice. Assist in maintaining the practice learning environment as an effective placement for learners to meet the competencies required of them and meets the required standards Escalate any serious untoward incidents involving learners as Trust and HEI policies.

Placement Capacity

Contribute by working with the Education Leads to develop, implement and update the Health Education England Quality Assurance Framework. Ensure clinical education audits are up to date.

Management and Leadership

Represent pre-registration and Nursing Associates at Trust, University and external meetings in the absence of an Education Lead Contribute to Trust wide policies, procedures, and educational initiatives in relation to pre-registration students and the role of the Nursing Associate. Assist the Education Leads to develop effective working relationships with managers, and others to ensure effective communication and support of supervisors and students in practice Assist the Education Leasd to critically evaluate & develop the service in response to internal & external policy/practice changes, complaints, course evaluations and staff feedback for the pre-registration placements and student nursing associate courses Work with managers and education leads to address issues of concern with staff performance or the quality of supervision/the learning environment for students and student Nursing Associates, reporting to the Education Leads and the University Assist with the monitoring of compliance with placement learning/quality monitoring requirements/reviews. Participate in events or publications that promote the Nursing Associate role and preparation

Communication and Relationship Building

Maintain a good working relationship across the placement partners and the University. Develop professional networks across education and practice in relation to the Nursing Associate programmes Act as an ambassador for the placement partners and the HEIs

General

Demonstrate a personal commitment to continuing professional development and lifelong learning.

Vaccination as a Condition of Deployment (VCOD) for Healthcare Workers

Candidates offered a role with Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust, who are aged 18 and over and who willhave direct, face to face contact with service users as part of their role will be required to evidence that they have received a complete course of an approved COVID-19 vaccine, subject to limited exceptions, by no later than 1 April 2022. This will include front-line workers, as well as non-clinical workers not directly involved in patient care but who nevertheless may have direct, face to-face contact with patients, such as receptionists and ward clerks.

Knowledge and experience

Essential

Strong experience as a practice assessor (including mentor before requirements changed) Registered Nurse Experience working as a registered nurse within a range of clinical settings Experience of coordinating and managing either staff or patients Evidence of experience and commitment to education in practice Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010)
