Job Summary

Are you interested in improving people’s health and wellbeing? Would you like to gain a qualification and experience as a smoking cessation advisor?

This new apprenticeship will support “Redbridge Quits Smoking”, the new Specialist Smoking Cessation Service for the London Borough of Redbridge.

We are seeking applicants who are interested and motivated to improve people’s physical health and wellbeing, by providing advice and support that will help them stop smoking.

As well as helping people who smoke to stop smoking, we would also encourage applications from people who are interested in supporting young people who vape.

During the 18-month apprenticeship you will have one day a week protected time to complete the NCSCT Level 2 training for smoking cessation advisors, and a Level 3 qualification. You will have further on-the-job training and plenty of opportunities to observe our experienced smoking cessation advisors deliver treatment to some of our specialist populations including maternity and mental health settings. Successful completion of this apprenticeship would allow the candidate to be qualified and experienced enough to work as a smoking cessation advisor, and Via will support you to identify and apply for other work opportunities before the apprenticeship ends.

The Role

The Apprentice Smoking Cessation Advisor will:

Complete the NCSCT training for smoking cessation advisors. Complete a Level 3 training for smoking cessation advisors. Learn about the evidence base and best practice for smoking cessation, including nicotine replacement therapies and vape/e-cigarettes, combined with specialist behavioural support. Get plenty of opportunities to observe and practice providing advice and support to people who want to stop smoking. Start to deliver smoking cessation advice and support to your own caseload with supervision and feedback from the team leader.  Support community outreach, awareness events and workshops to promote the benefits of quitting smoking.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain a professional qualification and be part of building a service to deliver specialist advice and support throughout the community, and in doing so, to improve the health and wellbeing of those living in Redbridge.

The Service

Via’s Redbridge Specialist Smoking Cessation Service launched in April 2023. Now moving into our second year, we are continuing to build our specialist smoking cessation team who are co-located with other Via colleagues at our well-established adult and young people’s substance misuse and sexual health services in Ilford.

This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week, with protected time to complete the NCSCT training for smoking cessation advisors. Our usual hours are Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00 with some occasional evening and weekend work as required.

Location

Redbridge Quits Smoking is based in Ilford, close to the station. This role also requires travel to satellite locations across the borough of Redbridge.
