Job summary

Brookside Group Practice is an innovative, forward thinking, large, 4 site practice working together as Earley + Primary Care Network, which manages approximately 31,000 patients. Our team of around 130 people includes many allied health professionals, including a thriving health and wellbeing team helping to address patients mental and emotional wellbeing needs alongside our doctors, physician associates and MIND services, MSK practitioners, pharmacists, paramedics, nurses, healthcare assistants, support, and administration staff.

Previous experience of nursing or working as a Health Care Associate / Assistant in General Practice preferred

Main duties of the job

Job Summary:

to work as a member of the General Practice Team to perform the following tasks safely & efficiently working within agreed protocols.

The successful candidate will have previous practical experience of Venepuncture and Blood pressure checks.

They will work as part of a teamsupporting clinicians and patients by carrying out clinical support, infectioncontrol, restocking and stock rotation tasks.

Other tasks could include but notlimited to:

Sutureremoval

ECGs

Spirometry

Dressings

Job Summary:

to work as a member of thePrimary Healthcare Team supporting clinicians and patients by carrying outclinical support tasks, infection control tasks, restocking and stock rotation.

to perform the following taskssafely & efficiently working within agreed protocols. Training will begiven as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

Venepuncture

Removal of sutures & clips

ECGs

Spirometry

Urine testing

Blood pressure measurement andmonitoring

Follow up dressings

Arrange the lending of &teaching patients how to use home & 24hour blood pressure machines

Assistwith setting up for minor surgery procedures including dermatology, IUDinsertion and removal and implanon insertion and removal and minor ops.

Teaching of inhaler technique

Assisting with annualdiabetic reviews

Giving advice on healthpromotion including new patient health checks for patients with long termconditions

Act on yellow flag reminderswhere appropriate

Assisting with the recall ofpatients for review

Entering data childhoodimmunisations, influenza

Computerisation of letters & notes

Chaperone duties

Stockchecks and reordering stock on a weekly basis

Recordfridge temperatures and promptly report temperature variation from standard

On the basis of a PatientSpecific Direction and with signed authorisation:

Pertussis immunisation for pregnant women

Pneumococcal immunisation

Vitamin B injections

The HCA will refer to a supervising memberof the clinical team if deviation from the protocol is required, if unsure inany way, or where clinical judgement is required before proceeding.

The HCA has responsibilities to

liaise with other members ofthe healthcare team as appropriate particularly regarding any concerns regardingpatient care

maintain good standards ofpractice in all areas of work

maintain accurate, contemporaneous& adequate medical records

maintain standards of infectioncontrol as per practice policy/guidelines

acknowledge & keep withinlimitations of HCA role

restock & tidy room at theend of each clinic
