Job summary

We are a friendly, rural Practice looking for an experienced Health Care Assistant/Phlebotomist with flexibility to offer ad-hoc cover during holidays and work based placements.

Main duties of the job

To assistthe practice team in the delivery of direct patient care, ensuring that patientsafety and well-being is always respected.

Communicatecourteously and effectively with patients, relatives and carer's in the languageof their choice.

Ensurethat the Practice Treatment room is kept clean and tidy and that the equipmentis in working order, clean and available for use.

Carryout health assessments on newly registered patients testing urine, bloodpressure checks, heights, weights and taking simple medical history.

Report,and document, all matters pertaining to patient care, changes in condition/circumstances, to arelevant member of the nursing or medical team.

Undertakephlebotomy, carry out ECGs, blood pressure checks, INRs, blood glucosetesting, cardiac and ABP monitoring and urinalysis.

Actwith regard to confidentiality and sensitivity of issues relating to patients,their care and treatment.

Recordand document all patient contacts.

Haveknowledge of, and act, within the boundaries of health and safety and dataprotection legislation.

Toensure proactive health promotion.

Tomaintain up to date CPR/life support competencies.

Provideear care advice and treatment of wax desirable not essential.

Administerdressings/wound care in accordance with infection control policy - desirablenot essential.

About us

Hartington Surgery is a small, butbusy, rural General Practice which is in the heart of the Peak DistrictNational Park close to the Derbyshire, Staffordshire border.

The Practice is fully dispensing andholds a General Medical Services contract to provide a range of medical care toapproximately 3300 patients. The varied population is employed in farming,quarrying, leisure, and tourism as well as being central for commuting to townsand cities in each direction.

There is a small enthusiastic,experienced team comprising of GP Principal, Sessional GP's, Practice Manager, Nurses,Receptionists and Dispensers. The strong team work closely with each other andhave built good working relationships.

The Practice has been rated asOutstanding by CQC and there is a commitment to deliver safe, excellentpersonal patient care and health promotion, offering respect and dignity in afriendly atmosphere whilst promoting equality and diversity in an inclusivesetting.

The Practice is innovative andforward thinking and proactively embraces change and new technology.

Premises are all on one level and aremodern and spacious with the additional benefit of a large car park.

Job Purpose

Summaryof role: To bea member of the practice-based nursing team on an ad-hoc/flexible basis. To assist health care professionals in thedelivery of a high standard of patient care that this is sensitive to patientneeds.

FormalQualification(s) required to fulfil the duties of this post:

NVQ in Primary Health Care or Completion of 15 core standards of Care Certificate

Experienceof working in a health care environment and involvement in the delivery of healthcare and phlebotomy.

Duties and Responsibilities

Keyarea of responsibility:
