Job overview

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Urological Surgeon based on the Whips Cross Site of Barts Health. We are looking for a Consultant Urological Surgeon to help with the overall workload of the Urology department. This post is to support the diagnostic and core urology work in the department.

Key duties will be supervising and running operating lists and prostate biopsy clinics, core and specialist clinics, diagnostics, on call cover, acute clinics and ward rounds, and care for patients on wards in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including ward nurses and specialist nursing teams. The unit is very active in research and audit and the post holder will be expected to fully participate in this activity.

You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and be on the Specialist Register, or within 6 months of obtaining CCST.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be required to participate in all clinical governance activities related to the Urology service. This will include contributing to: -

clinical audit

clinical risk activities

clinical incident reporting

responding to complaints within the Trust’s expected timescale

participating in the development of the involvement of users in planning and monitoring access to and standards of the service

Qualifications

Essential criteria

MB BS, or equivalent FRCS (Urol) or equivalent CCST (or within 6 months of date of interview)

Desirable criteria

Higher degree, e.g. MD/PhD

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Widespread broad based knowledge of all aspects of Urological surgery

Training Expected

Essential criteria

Higher Specialist Training in Urological surgery. Experience in training undergraduates and postgraduates Experience in general urology Experience in Emergency Urology Experience in General Urology & Prostate Biopsy

Desirable criteria

Experience of Novel prostatic techniques Experience in transperineal prostate biopsy

Management/Audit Experience

Essential criteria

Able to provide evidence of clinical audit and demonstrate understanding of impact and challenges this brings. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of current and future NHS challenges and strategy. Ability to support team members in business planning via collaboration and discussion.

Desirable criteria

Evidence of innovative approaches to healthcare Experience of audit management

Essential criteria

Ability to demonstrate personal experience of clinical research and describe and discuss findings and impact.
