Job summary

A Resident Surgical Officer (RSO) will primarily be on the Queen Mary'sHospital site to provide qualified medical cover for elective surgery patients(general surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology and anaesthetics).He/she will be continually responsible for the patient's management and care under the direction of the individual consultant and in close liaison with the nursing staff. He/she must inform consultants of any significant changes in the condition of their patients and of any emergency procedures undertaken

Main duties of the job

To make clinical decisions in the best interest of the ensure that high standards of patient care are maintained at alltimes in accordance with agreed operational policies, as a skilledmember of the hospital promote and safeguard the wellbeing of all patients and RSO must be present in the hospital when on duty, carry a workingbleep, and respond promptly to calls for assistance or Service Manager for Planned Care at QMS must be informed sixweeks in advance of any changes to the agreed initiate emergency medical care as required within the Trustguidelines for medical and surgical carry out primary medical assessment of patients who present asan On-Call RSO must respond to emergency calls readily and befamiliar with the location and mode of operation of resuscitation andmonitoring equipment. Is familiar with the drugs used in this reason the RSO must have refresher courses incardiopulmonary resuscitation annually and be ALS qualified.Undertake emergency procedures according to hospital consultants of any significant changes in the condition of theirpatients and of any emergency procedures undertaken.
