Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Respiratory Physiologist to work as a member of the Respiratory Physiology Team at Northampton General Hospital. You will be on the ARTP spirometry register and have experience of delivering routine respiratory function testing. It would be an advantage if you have knowledge of more advanced respiratory tests, but training will be given.

You will also support the Sleep Apnoea Diagnostic service and can become involved in supporting the CPAP service.

The service is currently undergoing expansion and involvement in CPEX and NIV will be possible in the future.

Main duties of the job

To work as a member of the Respiratory Physiology Team. Involvement in all aspects of diagnostic respiratory investigations.

To assist with delivering the sleep apnoea diagnostic service and CPAP service at Northampton General Hospital.

To analyse and present results to the Lead Clinical Respiratory Physiologist for reporting, highlighting any untoward results / incidents.

Provide the Patient Nebuliser Loan Service.

Provide education to medical students, junior doctors and nurse specialists in performing and interpreting basic lung function.

Liaise with a range of clinical and non-clinical staff to ensure an effective service isdelivered.

Work with the Respiratory Function Laboratory administrator to ensure the administrativeaspects of the service are covered at all times.

Ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times in line with current policies.

Calibrate, maintain and clean equipment (adhering to infection control policy).

Maintain own continuing professional development.

Job responsibilities

Provide basic lung function investigations independently. Produce technically satisfactory results in accordance with local health and safety policy.

To assist with delivering the sleep apnoea diagnostic service and CPAP service.

Essential

Educations, Training and Qualifications

Essential

Educated to GCSE level or equivalent level of education, in English, Maths and at least one Science To be on the ARTP spirometry register

Educated to A level or equivalent level of education in at least one Science subject Have Knowledge of other routine respiratory diagnostic tests
