Centre for Doctoral Training Manager (ReNU+)

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Renewable Energy Northeast Universities Plus (ReNU+, “ReNU Plus”) is a £5.3M programme to develop the next-generation of doctoral carbon champions. Specifically, the programme will train 52 PhD students across Northumbria (lead), Newcastle and Durham Universities between 2025 and 2032.

Northumbria University is seeking a full-time high-calibre project manager to fulfil the role of ReNU+ Centre Manager. This is varied and challenging position that is fundamentally important to the successful delivery of the programme. The role includes responsibility for operational aspects of the programme including recruitment of students, delivery of the training programme, marketing, leading the management committee and reporting to the EPSRC and the Strategic Advisory Board.

An important aspect of the role is working within a large team across higher education institutions and industry partners. This includes reporting directly to the Project Lead (Principal Investigator) and managing the programme budget in collaboration with the Northumbria University Post-Award Team. The role will be based jointly in the Department for Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering though you will be expected to work regularly in Research and Innovation Services (RIS) where you will interface with other Project Managers on similar programmes and directly line manage an Academic Support Coordinator.

In addition to being student-facing, this role will involve working with academics from different Departments and Faculties. This includes the ReNU+ Delivery Groups and Group Chairs to ensure the smooth-running and coordination of the programme. Achieving Net Zero requires the full range of perspectives and lived experiences for a sustainable and inclusive energy transition. To that end, the role will involve building more diverse cohorts of students and working with industry partners to broaden the appeal of the training programme and some travel within the UK is anticipated to achieve this.
