Purpose of Role

To recruit, support and develop volunteers involved with New Wortley Community Centre, acting as primary contact for volunteers.

To ensure that the centre develops relationships with organisations to create an effective network of reliable volunteers that support its various projects and services.

To ensure that volunteers are efficiently placed in roles for the fulfilment of the aims of the organisation’s aims and objectives and to aid their personal development.

Management Supervision and Guidance

You will be responsible to the ABCD Community Builder for your daily tasks and duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

Source, recruit and induct volunteers using a variety of techniques and media Ensure an enhanced DBS check is carried out before volunteers commence their volunteering experience with NWCC Interview potential volunteers and collect information from them to ensure effective matching of roles to skills Collaborate with centre staff to create engaging volunteer recruitment materials. Provide an effective induction process to ensure volunteers are well-prepared for their roles. Regularly check in with volunteers and their area supervisors to ensure a positive and productive volunteer experience. Build a sense of belonging for volunteers at the centre through team-building activities. Facilitate positive communication between volunteers, line managers and centre staff. Generate regular reports on volunteer engagement and impact for organisation and funding reviews Stay updated on best practices in volunteer management and implement changes as needed Arrange appropriate training and support as needed. Seek opportunities for volunteers to gain qualifications appropriate to their personal development Attend community events to promote volunteering roles and activities that take place in the centre Celebrate volunteer success including organising an annual recognition event in the centre Organise an annual Volunteer Fair bringing together other organisations providing volunteering opportunities building trusted relationships and sharing best practice Engage in outreach work to identify residents who are “hard to reach” who would benefit from engaging with the centre or volunteering at the centre Manage your time effectively to maximise output within your agreed hours. Assist other team members with events, workshops, sessions and activities where necessary Assign responsibilities to volunteers to support key projects and events Communicate frequently with volunteers to ensure that they feel supported and valued and the volunteering opportunity is well-placed Actively promote anti-discriminatory practice and equality of opportunities in dealing with staff, volunteer and service users being mindful of protected characteristics including race, faith, age, gender, sexual orientation, and physical disability Respect service users’ right to privacy, dignity and confidentiality and comply with GDPR Maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times, whilst working in a person centred way Respond appropriately to any safeguarding concerns and discuss with the Safeguarding Lead as appropriate Keep detailed records of volunteer information and assignments. Ensure that case studies are produced that evidence the benefits of volunteering to particular individuals Actively encourage volunteer involvement and participation in planning, delivery, and evaluation Ensure the aims, ethos of the centre and its actions are clearly communicated Contribute to collaborative team working supporting the work of the wider centre proposition

General

Adhere to the NWCA policies and procedures at all times Undertake any other duties as appropriate to the post or which may from time to time be reasonably determined by the Chief Executive Officer or Board of Trustees

Experience required

Experience of volunteer recruitment, coordination and training Experience of working for a community organisation Experience of successful outreach work Experience of working in a team orientated, collaborative environment Experience of building effective external relationships

Skills required

An understanding of people experiencing poverty and/or mental health issues Excellent communication skills Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to identify the needs of service users Highly self-motivated Ability to remain patient/calm irrespective of the situation Compassionate and empathetic Understanding of Equality & Diversity and the ability to challenge discriminatory behaviour Flexibility in work patterns Good IT Skills Ability to work as part of a team Ability to work with minimal supervision Excellent problem solving skills Highly organised with good time management skills
