Job summary

An opportunity has become available for an enthusiastic and experienced nurse to join the Thoracic Research Team. We are responsible for delivering a mixture of academic and industry sponsored clinical trials covering all areas of Thoracic Surgery.

This role will provide regular contact with participants encompassing research that will make a real difference to future patient care. We undertake studies that look at different interventions, studies that help us understand how the body works and how lifestyle choices affect health, and studies that help us more fully understand chronic diseases and tumour progression.

The role will involve recruiting patients to clinical trials as well as collaborating with the wider multi discipline team, attending clinics, completing patients visits to aid the delivery of ground-breaking interventions and create the next available evidence base.

We are seeking two band 6 nurses with either thoracic surgery or research experience to join our dynamic team. In return we will provide you with the necessary tools to expand on your existing knowledge base and work within in a friendly, forward-thinking department.

The current service is predominantly based at the QE site with the potential for cross site working as and when required.

Main duties of the job

The role is responsible for delivering a wide variety of research studies. The ideal candidate will be able to work autonomously and as part of the wider team. Essential skills and qualities include, communication skills, Proficient in Information technology, familiar with applications such as, excel, word, and have sound organisational skills with the ability to manage time and be able to prioritise

set objectives.

*Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration *Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff *Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD *Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff *Experience of mentoring undergraduate students *Evidence of ability to lead /coordinate a shift /area of department *Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice.
