Job summary

This is a senior role leading the planning and monitoring of the delivery of the performance, strategic and operational health protection objectives of the Powys Public Health Directorate.

The postholder will have significant demonstrable project management and organisation skills and experience, including: budget and staff management; developing robust performance reporting frameworks; in-depth complex data analysis, interpretation and reporting; risk management; continuous quality improvement; change management.

They will have a good understanding of the principles of health protection and have experience of responding to outbreaks and wider threats.

The post holder will be integral to addressing some of the recommendations in the recent Welsh Government health protection system review, and support the implementation of the national health protection framework once published.

The focus will be on driving forward the delivery of the health protection element, but the post-holder will also be expected to contribute to the delivery of the Directorate's wider projects and programmes as necessary to effectively protect and promote population health.

Main duties of the job

The Health Protection Incident Specialist is a senior role within the department that works closely with the Clinical Nurse Specialists in Health Protection in monitoring the delivery of the department's performance, strategic and operational objectives. The post holder will lead activity for the department relating to:

Incident response and logistical planning Performance, Audit and Governance monitoring Administration functions Departmental correspondence

The role will work autonomously, supporting the Consultant in Public Health and Clinical Nurse Specialist in Health Protection in the day to day delivery of the Health Board Health Protection functions. This will include managing correspondence, calls and queries and ensuring appropriate communication channels across the department.
