We have an exciting opportunity in the North Somerset Family Wellbeing Team for a Senior Practitioner within the United Kingdom Resettlement Team within the United Kingdom Resettlement Team.

This post is currently fixed term for 12 months, but may be extended subject to continuation of government funding.

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Practitioner to assist in the delivery of the North Somerset Council United Kingdom Resettlement Scheme. This role will support the Local Authority in relation to individuals/families on the Government Resettlement programmes from Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine and part of the government programme that has sought support from all UK Local Authorities to resettle refugees to assist with this global humanitarian crisis. 

Supporting the families and individuals will involve liaising and working in partnership with local government, professional partners, voluntary groups, and charities, developing the plans for resettlement within our communities.

You should be well organised with effective communication skills both verbally and in writing. Have the ability to coach and mentor colleagues within the team. You will also be prepared to be flexible to achieve the outcomes of this scheme. The ability to engage and support colleagues, families, individuals and partner agencies to understand the challenges faced by refugees is essential.

This is a full-time post and being offered on a fixed term contract initially for 12 months with the possibility to extend. 

This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.

This position is currently based at the Town Hall in Weston Super Mare.

About you

You should be a highly effective individual, able to work confidently alone or as an effective member of the team within a multiagency environment. You must also have a passion for finding solutions be up for a challenge and be prepared to try different ways of working to get results. Applicants need to have an NVQ level 3 or 4 or equivalent qualifications.

The post may require some evening and occasional weekend work.
