Job summary

Compass is the provider of Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) in education settings in the city of Derby and Derbyshire, and recently expanding the service into new areas with two new MHSTs in January 2024. We have an opportunity for a Mental Health Practitioner to join our Bolsover MHST. 

Compass Changing Lives ensures Children and Young People (CYP) access the right help, at the right time, in the right setting, MHSTs will remove duplication and avoid CYP/families being bounced in between services.

Main duties of the job

The service supports CYP and families providing extra capacity for early intervention support within school and college settings in three core areas:

Providing evidence-based interventions for mild to moderate mental health and emotional wellbeing issues Supporting designated senior mental health leads in each setting Providing timely advice to school and college staff and parents as required

You will need to demonstrate in your application that you have a core MHP qualification relevant to mental health, alongside post graduate experience working with children and young people and an understanding of the principles and practice of CBT and clinical supervision.

You will be knowledgeable and experienced inworking with CYP with mental health needs; completing mental health assessments, providing practice supervision and support as well as providing specialist care directly to children and young people and families.

Applicants must have excellent communication skills and be able to network with other agencies as central to the role.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Core professional qualification relevant to mental health CWP IAPT, PMHW, nursing with specialism in mental health or learning disability nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or Professional qualification relevant to mental health CBT therapist. Evidence of continued professional development

Desirable

Teaching qualification Youth Mental Health First Aid trained Therapeutic post graduate qualification (preferably in CBT).

Experience

Essential

Knowledge of educational environments Knowledge of safeguarding issues Knowledge of capacity and consent issues including Gillick competence Experience of working with children and young people, their families and others Experience of working and liaising with a wide variety of agencies and stakeholders Experience of working with children and young people who have social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties Experience of working with anxiety disorders Experience of working with affective (mood) disorders Experience of the delivery of specific therapeutic interventions to children, young people or their families ( CBT, solution focused brief therapy

Desirable

Knowledge of the functional operation of specialist Children and Young Peoples Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing services teams Experience of working with children and their families in a healthcare setting Experience of working with children and their families in an education setting Experience of monitoring and recording outcome measures for childrens emotional wellbeing Experience of navigating complex social systems and environments, who may have conflicting priories or agendas Experience of working with looked after children Experience of working with other vulnerable groups
