Job summary

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior Theatre Assistant to join our Ophthalmology Department.

If you are an experienced Theatre Support Worker and are passionate about delivering high-quality patient focused care, then this could be the perfect role for you.

Main duties of the job

You will provide support and assistance within the operating department teams.

You will contribute to the support and care of patients under the direction of registered members of the clinical team.

It is a direct patient focus role, where you will collect patients for theatre and assist the registered staff to prepare the patient for their surgery.

You will support in theatre to providing care to patients and support the scrub practitioner to have the necessary equipment need for surgery.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Previous experience in a health setting Ability to show professionalism Basic IT skills

Desirable

Experience within an acute setting Theatre experience

Qualifications

Essential

Care certificate achieved. Evidence of completed competencies as part of a professional portfolio. NVQ level 3 or equivalent

Desirable

Evidence of functional skills or willingness to undertake. Willingness to undertake further study

Knowledge

Essential

Awareness of physical, psychological and spiritual needs of patient's relatives and carers. Knowledge of clinical procedures and observations

Desirable

Understanding of risk management, health and safety issues, including safe manual handling.

Skills

Essential

Excellent communication skills Ability to work as part of team and take instruction from senior staff. Ability to display a mature reaction when working in stressful situations.

Ability to support junior staff members
