SEN Teaching Assistant Role Overview:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse and complex needs. You will work closely with teachers and other staff to create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment. Your responsibilities will include providing one-to-one and small group support, implementing tailored learning plans, and using effective strategies to manage students' behaviour.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning and delivery of tailored learning activities to meet individual student needs.
  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with SEN, helping them to access the curriculum and achieve their potential.
  • Support the social and emotional development of students, fostering their confidence and independence.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff to monitor student progress and adapt support strategies as needed.
  • Implement behaviour management techniques to promote a positive and productive learning environment.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility needs as required, ensuring the well-being of all students.

SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is highly desirable.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or special educational needs (, Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an understanding or experience using PECs or Makaton.
  • Patience, empathy, and a compassionate approach to working with students facing challenges.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour and remain calm under pressure.
  • A clear Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check registered to the update service.
  • References that cover the last 2 years of employment, including a relevant job role.
