Job Type:  Freelance, variable hours depending on subject area and student numbers.

About the role

We are seeking experienced lecturers and industry experts, even those new to teaching, to join us on a freelance basis at our Brighton Campus. Opportunities are available for regular teaching starting September 2024, as well as covering teaching/deputising and guest lecturing on an ad hoc basis. BIMM provides internal training and professional development for all lecturers, especially those new to teaching. A graduate or postgraduate qualification is advantageous but not essential.

You will play a key role in delivering high-quality education to our students, ensuring they acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in the industry.

We have opportunities across the following subject areas:

•Film and Television Makeup Techniques - Introduction to various makeup techniques used in film and television productions.

•Character Design and Special Effects - Designing and applying special effects makeup for character transformation.

• Period and Historical Makeup - Techniques for recreating authentic historical looks.

•Wig Making and Hair Styling - Crafting wigs and advanced hairstyling for different characters and settings.

•Prosthetics - Creating and applying prosthetic pieces for realistic effects.

•Continuity and On-Set Practices - Maintaining continuity and managing makeup changes on set.

•Digital Makeup Applications - Integration of digital technology in makeup design and application.

•Health and Safety in Makeup Artistry - Best practices for ensuring health and safety in makeup application.

•Makeup for Different Skin Tones - Techniques for applying makeup to various skin tones and types.

•Professional Development and Portfolio Building - Building a professional portfolio and preparing for a career in the film industry.

•Industry Trends and Innovations - Staying updated with the latest trends and innovations in hair and makeup for film.

What You’ll do:

•Design and deliver engaging and comprehensive lessons in hair and makeup for screen and film.

•Provide practical demonstrations and hands-on training to students.

•Assess and evaluate student work, providing constructive feedback.

•Stay updated with industry trends and integrate these into the curriculum.

•Mentor and support students, fostering their professional growth.

•Collaborate with colleagues to develop and enhance the course content.

What You’ll bring:

•A degree in hair and makeup or a related field is preferred.

•Significant industry experience in hair and makeup for screen and film.

•Previous teaching experience at the higher education level is preferred.

•Strong communication and organisational skills.

•A commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.
