THE ROLE


The Back Lot Construction Manager role is a mid-senior role and is integral to the success of the E20 Programme as the role holder is responsible for the co-ordination and monitoring of the delivery of the construction project from an operational standpoint, supported by the Lead Project Manager. This role will involve providing oversight for the Client of construction activities in respect of Health and Safety, Quality and Programme, ensuring the construction works are delivered safely and in accordance with design and technical compliance in line with best practice. 

Main Responsibilities


The Construction Manager should have strong experience in the construction industry having previous involvement in traditional building contract processes to completion. Experience of working alongside noise sensitive environments, and managing multiple stakeholder relationships is essential, as is knowledge of relevant legislation and health and safety legislation and best practice.

Key Responsibilities: 

Act as a representative of the Client monitoring compliance of construction works. Monitor site works and provide assurance to the Programme management team that construction activities are undertaken as per the approved design and contract conditions.  Safety Leadership on site, contributing to the wider programme safety targets and culture. Liaise between the project and the wider campus activities where logistics and coordinating works is considered. Ensure works are being undertaken and recorded as required by the quality management system. Manage the Inspection and Test Planning process across the construction works. Manage the snagging/defects process. Liaise with various colleagues to achieve full communication and best results for the operation. Identify problems and offer solutions during the construction period Report on actuals compared to estimate in terms of task delivery. Be fully conversant with and work within all applicable safety regulations and guidance. Attend planning meetings and visit suppliers and subcontractors as required, liaising with external suppliers of goods and services.

Are you the right candidate?

Essential:

A recognised professional construction qualification – HND, HNC or BSc in Construction Management or similar. Construction skills certification – SMSTS, CSCS etc. Extensive and demonstrable experience in working on large complicated (multifaceted) construction projects.  Demonstrable record of successful construction project delivery (Planning, quality management, problem solving, reporting, managing H&S). Self-starting with ability to empower teams and colleagues to focus on achieving goals.  Excellent communication (spoken, written, listening), social, interpersonal and influencing skills.  Ability to effectively communicate and reach agreement with difficult stakeholders, navigating ambiguous, changeable, and complex environments to achieve desired outcomes. Microsoft Office software skills and experience using data to make it meaningful for different audiences.

Desirable:

Has managed projects with a budget of £5m+ or significant business area impact. Knowledge of the media sector.  Understanding of JCT contracts.
